It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

It may not be plan A, but we also need a plan B in the case of a midfieder not being possible. Think myself plan B would be playing 4 centre backs and using 1 ,hopefully Stones, to step into midfield beside Kovacic.
Theyre tactics from 2023. Teams have caught on now. Need something else

So two very young players with no PL experience at the heart of our defence and two central defenders trying to be midfielders. What could possibly go wrong?
No worse than we currently are. But we could easily see a line up of (if all fit)

Gvardiol-Ake-Dias-Akanji
Stones-Kovacic

That’s plenty of experience.

Like many on here, I assumed the previously unplanned January signings were intended to 'save the season'. A proven player must mean someone who has racked up significant PL or equivalent games and preferably an established international. Because of the sick notes at CB, Walker's mental melt down and Rodri's ACL we had to buy two proven defenders and a proven CDM. Also, if possible a 2nd striker to allow some rotation for Erling, so we don't flog him to death.
The targets in the public domain just don't match that profile and appear to be related to the medium/long term need to rebuild the ageing squad. Our transfer windows over the last 2 to 3 years have placed us in this mess and it looks like we are about to botch up another window.

so we've bought/targeted in all the position you want (except 1) so far but you've decided they aren't good enough before they have signed?

I never assumed that. I always assumed we wouldn't sign anyone in January that we wouldn't have signed in the summer as part of our plan for the next 5 years. Seems to be what we are doing. Quiet rightly.

It seems very unlikely that we will not purchase a DM this window..
I'm 50/50 on it. I can't think who we can get that would be a long term solution. That said I'd never heard of those we are looking to sign so a left field somebody I've never heard off wouldn't surprise me either.

And you’re suitably qualified to determine our targets are not good enough already. OK

They might be 'good enough' given time, but to expect them to fix our defensive issues NOW, is asking a hell of a lot. Hopefully they are more advanced than eg Simpson-Pusey, but on paper they appear to be at his level. Currently, we are conceding twice as many goals and 3 times as many chances compared to the previous 4 years. Defensively we are an absolute mess. If it continues like this our best hope for European football next season could be via an FA Cup win into the Europa League, not the end of the world but that isn't going to fill the expanded North Stand is it ?

We clearly need a midfielder (a box to box midfielder who can cover DM but not an actual DM for me), but I'd rather us sign the right player than panic and sign another Phillips. I'm sure City are doing everything to bring a midfielder in in Jan, but if the player they want isn't available now but more likely to move in the summer, then we're probably just going to have suffer it and wait I'm afraid.

That doesn't mean defence and attack aren't problem areas too that need improving, hence the 3 were trying to sign.

We need a player that can recieve the ball in tight areas is experienced can play 1 or 2 touch football can read danger and get about the pitch that's the dm we are after!! The chances of getting that player in January is very slim!! Bruno at Newcastle would have been a great addition and think we will be balls deep on him in the summer!! But Jan is no chance the others I can think of just ain't available in Jan barella? Kimmich? Fdj? I think Douglas Luiz is what we will go for on loan as just an extra body with legs to help out.

Luiz is a loan with an obligation to sign for £50m it seems though?

How many games has Pusey played ? And how many have these signing played ?

JSP 6
Khusanov 31 + 10 Uzbekistan
Reis 22

But the newbies are moving to a new country, probs dont speak English, never played in the Prem, so they may need a few months to settle in. We have 3-4 months to achieve UCL qualification. Personally I would have gone all out for Guehi, he has approx 200 senior games and is only 24.

btw Echeverri 48 games: in Argentina, just 19 ! ,
McFarlane 0 games: from New York City, still TBC
