Sure I read there were some other clauses that may come into effect in a few years, but either way, with a contract until 2034, any clauses would ensure we get at least £100m I would imagine, so he's not going anywhere in his prime for a free!

It has to be related doesn't it? The timing of our January window spend and now this. We'd just wait until summer if there was concern. Likewise, even with clauses, why would Erling rush to commit. He'd just wait until the outcome and then make a decision.
