I think this matters to people because the police were saying its misinformation that he was a terrorist and going after people who said so online....

I thought the misinformation was to do with him wrongly being labelled as an asylum seeker who came over on a boat last week/last month/last year. Regarding the terrorist angle, the police didn't know at the moment that the crimes were committed if it was terror related. It's only upon further investigation that they found the Al Qaeda material and ricin.

Just reading updates on this from this afternoon as more info has been coming out. He had an obsession with Genghis Khan and Hitler, and was also known to have accessed information about the IRA. He also has a long history of violence. He's clearly been a wrong 'un for a long time but like @Churchlawtonblue said, it would be difficult to ascertain whether he was driven by any particular ideology because the shit that he's been up to prior to the attacks were far reaching. He may well have been but proving it might be tough. In any case, he's going down for life regardless.

So if people were saying that it wasn't a terrorist attack then that makes them a do gooder? I doubt that there's a single person on this forum who is particularly bothered about whether it may or may not have been a terrorist attack because the most important part of this story that can't be changed is that 3 little girls have been murdered. Whether it was a terrorist attack or not, he's clearly a very disturbed person who needs to be locked up for a long time, preferably for life.

You, on the other hand, seem to be more desperate for it to be classed as a terrorist attack above all else. I just want the murdering **** taken off the streets for good.

I think you need to read up on this case. It is not about his mental capacity, his defence have never offered this in the build up to a trial. If his sanity was under question the defence would have offered the alternative charge of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, which they did not do. This guy is a terrorist , he has pleaded guilty to terrorism offences and he chose his victims to give maximum publicity to his cause. I really don’t know how I can explain it in any simpler terms

Maybe he does but the point I'm making that you are clearly struggling with is why should it matter to you whether it's classed as a terrorist attack or not? It's mass murder either way. In fact, I'd argue that if he's going down the terrorist route then that will actually endear him to some loons, whereas if there was no terrorist label involved then it endears him to pretty much no-one.

By that logic we should do away with classifying some crimes as terrorist then. The fact is we do use that classification and this was a terrorist crime.
