Defensive midfielder

It's you that doesn't understand.....
it doesn't matter that Shearer said he came back 100% fit, he wasn't the player he was, that is a fact.
Owen, when started had a 'wow' about him, after his injury he never had that again, he just became a decent player, nothing more. Becoming injury prone afterwards, is a by product of serious injury...which makes any player less effective than they previously were!
Sane? Are you for real?? He was half the player for us afterwards, and has never been as good at Bayern, as he was before his injury with us.
As I said before - you’re talking about different injuries - Owen states categorically that it was his hamstring injury that affected him.
Despite the fact I have provided quotes from the players concerned about their recovery from ACL - you just keep providing your opinions that they were finished.
However you know far more than me about the ACL effects in the current era & obviously think Rodri is done for.
Happily he doesn’t seem to agree

My last post on the matter. As I said before, we’ll have to agree to disagree

I don’t want to butt in, but I agree completely with you CCI having watched yesterday a certain Danny Ings sprinting around the Olympic stadium like a blue arse fly, and I think he did both knee ACLs.

A lot of those relied on pace. Rodri doesn't.
Yeah but an ACL injury can severely impede your ability to twist, turn and change direction quickly. Getting into obscure positions can be hammered to and that's something every footballer needs.

It's a big reason why Mendy was never the same footballer again, that ability move in different directions quickly just went when his ACL went.

This isn't to say it happens to everyone. Some people come back and can perform at the same if not higher level. Hope Rodri is of this ilk

Saw this name pop up on one of the gossip aggregators that we’re interested in
Mikel Jauregizar
Not heard of him myself

Falcao wasn't.
Shearer wasn't.
Ibrahimovic wasn't.
Van Nisistelroy wasn't.
Owen wasn't.
Van Dijk isn't.
Sane (you left out) isn't.

Still being a good player/adapting your game, is a long way from being the level before. A couple were only kids, so heal better and quicker...Rodri isn't a kid.
Let's hope he comes back the same...I would say 'even better' but that's impossible ;)
Half of those players would still be better in their comparative positions than most Premier league players. Even AFTER their injuries!

For example...

I'd rather take a post ACL Shearer than a current Darwin Nunes, or post ACL Van Dijk than a current day Maguire.

The one downside about your DM being the best player in the world is that no pure DM that's good enough is going to want to join and be a benchwarmer. So you have to look for an 8 that can also play 6, to sell them on the idea that if they are really good, they can play alongside Rodri, but also play as a lone 6 when Rodri needs a rest a few times a season. The issue is when Rodri is out for the season and those half 8 half 6 types have to play the 6 for the entire season, they can't. That's what we have at the moment - this is why we brought nunes, kova, gundo.

I actually don't know how we solve this one long term

Jude Bellingham likes this :-/

Angelo Stiller, Rovella, Baleba, Nico Gonzalez, Larsson - so many midfielders would be available for the right price out there. Luiz is not good enough to fix the issue we have, out of possession we are terrible.
But are we actually going for any of them
