Southport attacker pleads guilty to murdering three girls | Sentenced to 52 years in prison

There is a particular bit I’ve just read that has really hit me hard. I can’t have anything other than admiration and extreme sorrow for those families having to actually see on camera what I’ve read.

I’m not drawing the line anywhere, I’m just observing that any officer who assaults this creature, whilst carrying out their duties, in order to restrain him, in circumstances where he’s playing up is never going to be convicted by a jury: and nor, in fact, would it therefore meet the CPS evidential test as there would be no realistic prospect of a conviction.

Ohhh there will be plenty strangely enough mate.

He should be trussed up and wheeled to the dock bound and gagged to listen to the shit he has done, any damage to him by resisting should be classed under the heading of tough shit.

I don't disagree-but I've met some incredibly violent people-and in attempting to manage them in custody or on occasions when they have to go to court, the amount of violence you face is regularly extreme and frightening-any staff that use force have to document and justify that-and injuries that are caused to the detainee -inc even some of the smallest cuts have to be reported to PSD-once the IOPC get hold of things it takes years to resolve. Officers of mine were charged with common assault for kicking a detainee (in line with how we are taught) who had gone berserk (and had attacked several people prior to arrest and later at hospital) -and it was only appeal that the matter was thrown out of court-years after the event.

I'm not sure in this case it benefits anyone of the families watching court officers fighting with him whilst he would be screaming his head off.

I know and I find it absolutely unfathomable that anyone could. There are just no adjectives to fully describe this absolutely horrid crime.

Says the loaner typing on a keyboard at near midnight with a bottle for company whilst most are snuggled up in bed with their loved ones. I think public opinion sees it more like me than putting any sort of case together to defend this low life

It is reasonable for people to want him to suffer a long life locked away rather than an instant death. Whether or not the British justice system provides a lifestyle akin to the suffering people would want is another question.

I think if I was in a position where this directly affected me, I would probably want him dead though.

The law, and public opinion, are rarely comfortable bedfellows, especially at times like this when the need for revenge can often cloud judgement.
