I checked and he didn't make a tackle. I am not saying he is shit but that was as bad a debut as you will see. Weird people just outright lying and pretending he was anything but poor just because it was his debut.

Mangala had a mega debut and was fucking awful, it doesn't mean anything.
Well just off the top of my head there was a sliding tackle that went into touch and the one on Jackson just before he got subbed. Just proves how shit the stats are

You should try watching the game with your eyes, not a laptop.

About as bad a start as you can imagine, unbelievable error and then booked after trying to recover an awful pass within the first 5 mins.

I genuinely thought he was going to get hooked after 10 mins as he was a red card waiting to happen but seemed to grow as the game went on.

Glad he won that duel just before he got subbed off and nice to see the reaction from the crowd getting behind him as he came off.

A positive day overall, no need to dwell on the mistake .

The sliding tackle was offside so won't be counted in the stats - but he didn't know that when making the tackle.

Not sure on the Jackson one, but if the attacker isn't considered to have controlled possession then it doesn't count as dispossessing them, so could be that?

Rough start but I watched mangala put in a prime maldini performance on his debut, so that just shows you how much it really means.

Young, no english and barely a week in training. Could of easily went into his shell after the mistake and early yellow, but he didn't, continued to offer for the ball and started to build up confidence. Looking forward to see more from him.

Happy we got the win as it basically means his mistake cost us nothing.

So like I said, proves how shit stats can be ;)

I blame Akanji more than him for the goal, Akanji hesitated and then didn’t take responsibility in clearing.
I said that in the ground. Khusanov was going to head it, but then Akanji gestured to him to be calm and there was no danger. He was wrong and then Khusanov panicked.

Not seen it back yet, but it’s not cost us any points.

Didn’t see mega speed from him though.

The lad will learn from that. He needs to put the first 5 minutes behind him and focus on what he did ok. He may flop, he may be another Zaba. Only time will tell. It was nice to hear the crowd support him though.

Glad the supporters got behind him. He needed us

Akanji is a passive player really good on the ball but doesn't see danger! When the lad jumped for that header if you can read the danger you would cover if he missed the header!

Johnathan Woodgate disagrees.

Thrown into the deep end without either Stones or Dias to settle him in.

Other than the mad opening 5 or so minutes he began to settle down. He was only starting as needs must, as Stones could not play the full 90 according to Pep on 5live.

On guardiola that and i felt for the lad

Thrown in, doesnt speak english, 3 training sessions, with mr hide n seek champion akanji and ffs nunes next to him
One thing Akanji was not today was hide and seek champion , he shepherded him brilliantly today after that shaky start.
Thought Akanji was back to his best today.
Kush will learn after a shaky start he showed guts but we were far more press resistant after Johnny Stones replaced him, which isn't surprising.

Horror start but recovered well , wasn’t really tested much after 10 minutes though as Chelsea were shite

Bernardo massively helped him out by dropping deep to take the ball off him

What I don’t get is that he looked no better or worse than Simpson Pusey , the club much think he has a much higher ceiling?

Watching a comp back of Khusanov’s debut I’m less worried about him. His mistake from the goal was just not knowing our passing rhythms at the back.

He will have that absolutely drilled into him over the next year. Bits where he was called upon to defend he did generally really well and made some good blocks and interceptions. And like others said, he recovered very well.

Hes 20 years old in a new league ffs

bluemooners smoking drugs again .......
It's fucking ludicrous to expect a 20 year old to be 'commanding'. Especially in a side that's living on its nerves with a non existent midfield. A shaky start but he never hid from the ball. I'm sure Akanji will feel he could've done better, on reflection.
