You can encroach but you don't commit the offence if you don't touch the ball or impact the next phase of play.
The palace number 5 encroached but wasn't involved or touched the ball when the ball became active again.

I've just watched it back - and yes it simply had to be retaken. It is a clear cut rule, there's no ambiguity. It's been pretty consistent since the new encroachment rules have been in place.

If you are a defender and you encroach and then touch the ball to clear it, then it gets retaken. Whoever else is encroaching is totally irrelevant - it only counts as encroachment if you impact the play. Guehi only has himself to blame.

Honestly, I dislike the notion of fake results (it reminds me of Mourinho's evasions) but I was at that, and the result is an absurd distortion of how the game went down. We absolutely shot ourselves in the foot — ok, four times. But that's the match I saw.
