Ederson (defensive midfielder Atalanta)

Rodri “struggled” in his first season? Did he fuck, all that happened was that some knicker wetters who don’t understand what makes a good footballer didn’t recognise his brilliance - hence the pathetic nickname used by some of Plodri. He could ALWAYS pass, tackle, block runs, progress the ball etc.
I didn't want to say it. But happy you did ,:)

Subjective and likely false. Rodri took a minute to find his legs. Granted it was a quick minute- and his upside has been phenomenal.

Nah. Fernandiho came to a team that had Toure in midfield and a team that immediately won the title in his first season, so that's where that impression comes from. Rodri came to the worst Pep's Man City (just as bad as City this season), he had Otamendi and Garcia behind him in defense, that's where the negative opinion about Rodri comes from.

It didn't help him that we, as a team, were pretty poor in his first season, and that just brought more scrutiny on him

Did I miss the poll?
No, I must have missed the thread.

But I struggle to see how anyone would think that, so maybe 10% was generous. In his first season, never mind the first 6 months at least, not to mention his first day.

He was obviously better than 36 year old Fernandinho, but whether her was better than 29 year old Fernandinho, who was the entire defensive side of our midfield when paired with Yaya is more debatable.

Still, the matter is closed in your mind, so we may as well leave it there.

Both great players and people , end of story.

From Simon Mullocks latest piece:

"... And that is unlikely to be the end of the Blues’ spending spree after Atalanta placed a £50million valuation on the head of Brazilian midfielder Ederson. Juventus have offered City the chance to sign Douglas Luiz on loan if they agree to an obligation to buy at the end of the season. But the Blues have been long-time admirers of Ederson - and sources in Italy believe Atalanta are now open for business after seeing their Serie A title hopes fade in recent weeks."

Hopefully not. Would rather sign nobody now and get somebody that’s good enough in the summer.

His contract expires in summer 2027 according to Transermarkt so realistically if Atalanta are going to cash in it'll be this calendar year. Can't see it happening this month though.

He'll bring great balance to the side . We don't need another ball playing midfielder . He is good on the ball . And great out of possession .

Works hard but I have never thought of him as being good on the ball. I have only seen him a few times but that always seemed his weakness to me.

He seems highly rated surely he is good enough
Not good enough on the ball, no. He has energy and he’ll run forever which is great. But we need more than that. Not going to take us to the level of being Champions League favourites again, which is surely one of the end goals of this rebuild. I’d genuinely rather pay double the price (or slightly more) for Baleba in the summer and sign no midfielder now. I want the RIGHT players, not compromises. Ederson is a compromise.

A PL record fee on someone who has played half a season and plays the same position as our best player who is back in 3 months ?

Hope we don’t go with Luiz, never thought he was good enough for us. Couldn’t we do the old loan with obligation to buy, wink, wink…like every other fucker does with us ?
