New CL Format Thoughts

It's the away games that this "AI" generated for us that were the hard ones look at Villa away games? They had all the big teams at home
I said when draw made we had a tough one, all our aways bar one were difficult. I found it odd too that we were the first team to be drawn out when it was done last August - supposedly randomly. Compare that with domestic cup competition draws where we are never the first team out of a full pot.

my view is the so called random fixtures is open to manipulation so it’s easy for UEFA to give some teams harder fixtures than others

It was done by AI the draw and why they just pressed a button and it was done in seconds. Can AI be manipulated? I don't know but it can be told anything before pressing that button..

Whatever the method of draw that takes place, it’s open to conspiracy theories.

Until they’re proven, that’s all they are.

I like it, feels much more unpredictable.

Still some wank teams getting pumped by everyone, but the slightly better wank teams have more to play for and a bit more freedom to have a go.

For the better teams, you can't really take your foot off the gas or you'll sink down the table.

It's not too much different to previous years. You often had a group of death. It was dependent on what teams out of the different pots you got. Pot 2 is often fairly equal to Pot 1 other than a couple of teams. Luck of the draw comes into it. You could get the tougher teams from the pots away rather than home. Or you could get the weaker teams from each pot and have an easier run.

Ultimately, the league table isn't truly reflective of the quality of teams involved. However, we should have beaten Feyenoord and bossed Sporting in the first half. Those two results cost us from going straight to the last 16. And then on the reverse side, a bigger loss to Sporting would have seen us with an easier playoff (on paper) against Atalanta or Dortmund and similarly an easier last 16 game (Lille or Villa).

It is what it is and we ended up with Real of Bayern which doesn't sound great but they're in the playoffs for a reason. I personally want Bayern. Kompany is still raw in terms of managerial experience and their CL results haven't been great. They were battered by Feyenoord last week. We can very much beat them, Vinny will play the occasion and not the game. Real have picked up and Ancelotti will lick his lips when he picks a side to play us. Their weaknesses have been similar to ours, but they've got better options than we do in the middle of the park.

If we are never drawn out first then by law of averages it was about time we were.

But on that occasion last August what a poisoned chalice it turned out to be. I thought at the time it was a draw with tricky aways, the home fixtures, bar Inter were supposedly winnable, how wrong that turned out to be. I still maintain Dips, Arse and Villa had better all round fixtures.

Yea but you said it was “odd”. I’m just saying that there’s nothing odd about a random draw.

We haven’t beaten any team in the top 15 in the league - but we’ve scraped the play offs. We deffo need to improve but nothings impossible.

That's probably one of the best responses to conspiracy theories I have read.
That said, we did have a suspiciously long run of extraordinarily bad draws in the first few years from Mancini onwards.

That said, we had extraordinarily bad luck several times, when we lost our to away goals in a high scoring tie (Spurs, Monaco), forgot to play a DM once, and a couple of awfully unlucky losses to Madrid

So by the law of averages we should be about to get a great run of easy draws and lucky escapes. Maybe yesterday was the start.

No cup draws are fixed or suspicious. I don’t know if there has been the odd dodgy one in South America in the 70s or something but any living City fan who thinks City have been conspired against in any draw ever has a head full of magic.

Oh but there is mate where our cup draws are concerned. I think it was pretty well known on another website that there was precious little ' random' about that entire draw.
If you have that information just contact The Sun, make yourself a few hundred thousand and break the biggest story in English football history. Good luck mate. Looking forward to seeing it.

It’s fair to say the final game was probably always going to be more exciting this year, as chances are we would not have coasted it.

Whether it’s better is up for debate, but to me it seemed it.

Got a cracking game now to look fwd to as well.

Unfortunately the glee at our demise (as it’s seen) is being somehow attributed to the new format. This thought process proves you can polish a turd. Like the previous format was rigged in our favour lol.

The Champions League is not a Champions League. Liverpool aren’t Champions. It’s been bollocks since its original format change of purely Champions.

No point in moaning though. It definitely won’t be changing back. The answer is always more teams, more football, more cash.

It's rubbish, it's about as complicated as the UEFA Nations League!
The old format was much better and fairer.
Most interesting it’s been in years. Usually play the same shite teams every year and all the big guns piss through.
