Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I get that.
But how we’ve crumbled agains; PSG, Feyenoord, Sporting etc…

All I’m saying is if the Foden fuck up didn’t happen I’m not confident we wouldn’t have just found another way to gift them a goal.
Yeah, someone else would have just misplaced a pass in a bad position or failed to close down an attacker, still would have been the same as the PSG game. When the other team raises their intensity, especially in the 2nd half we simply can't seem to match it. Plenty of examples this season.

This!
Also, this going to block shots on a three-quarter turn with your hands behind your back is wank. Who the fuck has coached this into the game? Fuckin woeful display from the pair of them today.

For the life of me WHY do the defenders jockey the attackers into our box and then do nothing but turn their backs with the arms down behind their backs, fucking smash them at the first chances and put a tackle in or hold them up

You really don't want to see any of it. But trust me; the first goal, in particular. A certain individual played a minor, but not insignificant, role in the concession of said goal.
That was when I stopped reading the MDT because I had just posted my usual post and someone quoted it with Ouch and I then read a post about my (still) hero so I came away and watched a couple of programmes recorded yesterday and only looked again at the very end.

Nothing more than I expected. Said their midfield would run at will through ours and thats pretty much what happened.

Not a player out there played well and we can hide behind the fact that we gave them 2 goals BUT that defeat has been coming for a while (amongst others).

I said back in October when Rodri got injured that the real issue is that there is nothing that Pep can do to change this...no one to bring off the bench to sort out the midfield and that is still the issue.

We have bought players int he transfer window that might turn out to be good or even great players but none of them address the real issue...Those 2 new lads could turn put to be the reincarnation of Maldini BUT that wont stop teams stuffing us - No defender - even the best in the world can do anything when you have a whole forward line plus opposing midfielders running at them at will repeatedly.

Its not Bernardos fault - he aint a DM and at least he puts himself about
Kovacic is good player but a level below what we needed.....
Gundo - is finished as is KDB - he came on and looked totally disinterested - he aint got the fight in him anymore - offering him a deal extension at this point would be criminal

Foden had a bad game but he has a future here

Sav and Marmoush need to show more fight to get into a game...
Haaland - cant do anymore - he scored his chance and you cant ask much more than that in games like those.

Yes we made individual mistakes but I said this team needs an overhaul back in October and I stand by that....the whole midfield needs shifting out baring Foden and possibly Bernardo -

We are in a fight for top 4....top 2 we know will be Arsenal and the Scousers - but the last two places we are going to struggle to get....Newcastle are now our direct opponents and with our midfield unless we get someone in in the next two days and that player is able to adapt very very quickly - they will beat us...Joel Linton et al will bully us off the park....the scousers will take us to the cleaners with how strong they are in the midfield and upfront...another 6 pts dropped and we may finish outside the top 6 - knock on affect - the rebuild in the summer suddenly becomes harder with no CL to tempt players in.

Have to feel for him , at least looking shite as a RB sort of masks how shit he is in his preferred position, he’d look shite in the team room at half time dishing out digestive biscuits.
What a pity we don't have an alternative RB - say, some young kid who perhaps comes to a strange country without speaking a word of the lingo, maybe makes a complete rickets 3 minutes into his debut, gets booked a couple of minutes later, yet still has the character to perform well enough to be able to hold his head high when coming off mid-second half.
If only...

For the life of me WHY do the defenders jockey the attackers into our box and then do nothing but turn their backs with the arms down behind their backs, fucking smash them at the first chances and but a tackle in or hold them up
And from a 5 meter distance away!!! It’s woeful.

Disclaimer: I am making this post simply because I always do and I guess I’m superstitious!
I haven’t seen one nano second of the game, I read about 8 or 9 posts on the match day thread at the beginning.
However I still maintain that the Boys in Blue never gave in. They fought to the end.
Whatever happened on that pitch today I doubt that any one of our players said to themselves‘I’m not going to try’. I doubt that they expected to lose by that many, I doubt that they gave up.
It was a very bad day on the field. Rubbish happens and they will be travelling home tonight feeling depressed.

This sounds bad but that is my hope as, obviously, I am not travelling with them, that that is how they are feeling because if they aren’t then I guess they are not the team I love. I stand with them when they win. I will not disrespect them when they lose. I will just say. You can do so much better Boys in Blue. Please come back and show us.

Shout me down, insult me (or not because you are always kind to me) tell me off for defending them but hopefully you will also acknowledge that I am as gutted as you all are.
Thank you.
Sorry @jimharri … We are MANCHESTER CITY THE BEST TEAM IN THE LAND AND ALL THE WORLD (STILL) :-)
Ah thank you Eccles! A bit of tranquility in a sea of turbulence. I'm sure the boys are hurting just as much as we all are. We'll be back. CTWD

Akanji has been a steady eddy for us but the last couple of months has been a bomb scare. Playing when not 100% maybe to help us out like Laporte famously did back in the day.
Yeah I’ve no idea what’s happened to him but he’s a shell of the player he’s been.

They did give up in the final 20-25 minutes

Look, we gift wrapped two very special presents today and played in slow-motion - especially the second half. But to me, one season of dipping - albeit a dramatic dip, doesn't in any way detract from Pep's coaching ability. Same with Klopp/Ancelotti etc - their long dry spells don't take anything away from their reputations. Same with Pep (who has probably won more than those two added together in many fewer years) - the situation will probably increase his desire to build a team worthy of him.
I'm not saying Pep's lost his ability or no longer a genius. He's just shellshocked with what's going on in his personal life, his defenders not being fit (which is partially on him), and his senior players being actively poor or just shells of themselves.

My point was that those other three managers have managed to build cohesive systems with players who aren't as good as ours.

other coaches have sussed totally how to play against us. Let us have the ball, press us, wait for the inevitable fuck up, punish us.
What i hoped was he would come up with a new way, to combat rodri being out, he hasnt.
So other coaches, lots of them, have sussed us, and he hasnt responded

I will also say, where as the finality of divorce is tough (i know), its been an open secret within club circles that they have led separate lives for 5 years
Yes it's so obvious now. It took about 2mins for Arse to capitalise today.

Pep?

I did mate the full Monty, home and away. It was wank and I don’t want us going back there.
We're not, calm down. We'd have given anything to be fourth in the fist division as it was then. So stay calm blue and let Pep rebuild this team. He has earned the right to do that.

Hope more than anything Gabriel gets knocked out by someone

Gabriel is a petty **** of the highest order and believes his hype
This arsenal team along with their fans are worse than any group of players and fans I’ve ever seen in the PL and yes I’m including 2000s Man United in this. Truth be told, with the signings we linked and the ones we brought in to replace legends like KDB Walker Gundogan I doubt we’ll win the title next season. Let’s be honest 2 years ago we were heavily linked with Musiala, Rice, Bellingham, Rafa Leao, Guimaraes, level players, now we getting players that even Aston Villa could get if they really wanted. Savinho? Marmoush? Khusanov? I watch a lot of football, I never thought those players would be starters for City (Which they all will be next season)
