Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

So glad further to go means I have just landed and don’t have to go through it again on MoD. Although I’m genuinely though my from 10-60 mins we were the better team. Ie either side of the defensive fuck ups
Yep, hence my comment about a strange day. Everything was as I saw at game, pathetic individual mistakes costing us, and played well up until the equaliser, then fell apart.

I think the only positive I can take out of this game is that the club really do have to buy more players now, there really isn't any hiding when you get beaten so badly. Fingers crossed they can bring some very good players in.

I agree with this. I honestly don't believe it is lack of effort from the players.
There's no one reason alone, although my final point below is crucial, imho.

It's due to what Pep perceives as a thin squad, and it's due to a combined loss of fitness - age and injuries - resulting in a lack of ability and consequential poor decision making/judgement by his chosen, aging players. It can look like loss of effort but it's just inability at the highest level.

Similarly, poor decision making above, from the Director of Football over the last 3 years, and then on top of all that, Pep being Pep, and whose decisions this season I'll never be able to fathom.

Rodri's presence covered many of our faults. Since we lost him - the lynchpin - the team's been falling apart bit by bit as the season rolled on. And the worst thing is that it was very foreseeable, as we had the evidence last season in the few games that Rodri missed.

I don't think there was really too much in it until Foden dropped his clanger, and handed Arsenal an initiative that we never recovered from .... Up until that point Arsenal might have added to the one goal that they did score, but equally Gvardiol and Savinhio might have scored for City, and Haaland took our equaliser well enough.

What happened after that is best forgotten, just a complete and utter capitulation from a City side who should know better .... I'm afraid it was just the usual story in the end, too many mistakes made, too many balls given away, and too many goals and points conceded!

This playing out 'from the back' lark is always gonna cost us goals if the pass is aimed at City players who are being tightly marked, sometimes by more than one opponent, Ortega put Kovacic in trouble, John Stones put Akanji in trouble etc ...... we would be better off just hoofing the ball upfield and hoping for the best, we might win the high ball, and the chances are that we probably wouldn't concede as many goals ..... but playing risky or ridiculous passes right in front of our own box is always likely to end in disaster!
It’s not even ‘risk & reward’… there is no reward at the moment as the players are not as good as they were and we can’t beat the press. It’s all risk!

We've done so much. And now the team have hit a wall.

That's ok.

City have brought more success than I could have ever dreamed of whilst sitting in the north stand as a kid with my old man in 1986.

I've witnessed highs I will never see again and that's ok with me.

Win or lose I'm on the booze!

:)

Yeah I thought we were the better team today (until Foden gifted them one) but the mistakes were school boy level.
If Foden gifted them one, he was ably assisted by a pair of defenders not closing down an attacker, but instead letting him approach as closely as he liked before trying to block his shot from 15 feet away.
This should be called 'Man City Defending', because no other teams do it so convincingly.
Our keepers must watch other goalies, with defenders rushing in to narrow angles/stop crosses etc (you know, normal defending) and think 'you lucky bastard!'

Jacks more interested in modelling clothes , he’s had one good season and that’s it , very likeable lad , but a grafter and City player he ain’t.
I honestly didn't think he was like that though, very disappointing

Grow the fuck up
I don't understand this wailing and gnashing of teeth, not to mention the anger and abuse directed at the players, Pep and the management.

It's not even a surprise this downturn is happening.

The only surprise is that this group of players have managed to achieve sustained success at this level for so long.
They have won 6 out of the last 7 Premiership titles, reached 2 Champions League finals, won 1 Champions League, 2 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 3 Community Shields since 2016 with many records broken along the way, not to mention the doubles, treble and winning 4 League titles on the bounce.

Rags, Dippers, Tarquins, Yids, Chavs and fans of every club in the football pyramid would give their left bollock to see their teams achieve so much success.
Yet here are we, a bunch of entitled ingrates who couldn't have dreamt of so much success barely a decade and a half ago, calling out world class players, one of the best managers the world has ever seen and a fantastic management team who have given us so much success.

It's not rocket science, this player group has come to the end of it's natural life cycle, players have aged, they are exhausted physically and mentally and the team needs a rebuild which is well underway.
It was always bound to happen sooner or later.

The good times will return with the rebuild of the squad, our owners will insist on it and back it with the funds to make it happen as they so generously have in the past.
Untill that happens let's stay humble and grateful and back our manager and players who have given us so much success to celebrate over the years.

I think fatigue is at the root of the problem.
These players are plainly knackered by non stop football year after year being in the late stages of virtually every competition going.
This combined with the ageing process has contributed to an inability by key players not to be able to press the ball effectively anymore.
Add to this the loss of Alvarez and the injury to Rodri and there you have it…the Swiss cheese holes all nicely lined up for an underachieving season are there.
A few good new signings along with allowing the likes of KDB and Bernardo to leave for pastures new will inject much needed energy. They’ve been fabulous servants to the club but are no longer able to do what’s needed in a Guardiola system. It’s just a pity not to see them leave on a high but then again we have had the very best of them for a long while.
The summer transfer window will be an emotional one for many of us seeing these guys leave but I am confident that the club will do whatever is best and hopefully handle things with the dignity these fabulous players deserve.

Absofuckinlutely and if Parteys scrawny deflection goes over the bar who knows what the result might have been!
Pep mark 2 on the way!

When we equalised we were seemingly in the game. I would never, at that point predict a 5-1 defeat. I meant in the context of this game not the season which is going from bad to worse. After Chelsea I was a little more hopeful. I should have perhaps put a little more context around my comments
It was fucking crazy

We scored a brilliant goal, stream went down. By the time we got it back up it was 2 - 1.

From there on in it was a fucking shambles.

These collapses are worrying, we have to play Madrid in a 2 legged CL tie and everyone knows how that is the only trophy they are interested in.
Whereas we are getting completely mullered in spells by tripe teams.

The fucking Rags beat the Arse a few weeks ago at the Emirates, and they just tonked us for 5!

Just rewatched some of the match in a more dispassionate way. Raya - who was doubtful for the match ( just our luck he was fit) - had a blinder today. We could have been winning in the first half. That would have done to them - confidence wise - what their goals did to us.
It was just one of those games and we’ll improve & be back with new players & injured ones returning.
I’m not writing us off for the main trophies AND We’ve ALREADY WON ONE!!
Come on you Blues.
But realistically how long can we go on saying that?

I know he's not the answer, but whenever he's not playing, I find myself wishing Doku was available. His inability to stay fit is hurting us.

More players that can come in and have an influence, buy potential is not what is needed currently, and for gods sake, lets sign full backs
