Arsenal (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I can’t believe I’m reading this. You obviously know better than everyone at the club & Pep. Maybe they are working on a rebuild knowing that a 5th PL was more than unlikely???
Can’t believe what exactly?

He has said it himself, his midfield is too slow and too old. I’m not putting words in his mouth, He has also said on many occasions he won’t change. No matter what. He is stuck to his tactics. Even if it means playing his ‘old, slow’ midfielders.

Jesus. The media & shitstorm that has come out of Arsenal winning yesterday is unbearable.

Just a reminder of this 2mths ago….
City 0 - 4 Spurs
Nobody really gave a shiny shit

He said quite recently in a press conference that KDB and Gundogan were old. City are in transition. Pep knows that. There are though question marks about the wisdom of buying players who are 19 and 20 who probably need some development. Perhaps this is the best way and we just find it difficult to watch our side lose.

There are though some positive aspects. One is Savinho, who is now showing that he's going to be an exceptional player. And in small glimpses Marmoush looks like he can be a good player for us.

I don't understand this wailing and gnashing of teeth, not to mention the anger and abuse directed at the players, Pep and the management.

It's not even a surprise this downturn is happening.

The only surprise is that this group of players have managed to achieve sustained success at this level for so long.
They have won 6 out of the last 7 Premiership titles, reached 2 Champions League finals, won 1 Champions League, 2 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, 3 Community Shields since 2016 with many records broken along the way, not to mention the doubles, treble and winning 4 League titles on the bounce.

Rags, Dippers, Tarquins, Yids, Chavs and fans of every club in the football pyramid would give their left bollock to see their teams achieve so much success.
Yet here are we, a bunch of entitled ingrates who couldn't have dreamt of so much success barely a decade and a half ago, calling out world class players, one of the best managers the world has ever seen and a fantastic management team who have given us so much success.

It's not rocket science, this player group has come to the end of it's natural life cycle, players have aged, they are exhausted physically and mentally and the team needs a rebuild which is well underway.
It was always bound to happen sooner or later.

The good times will return with the rebuild of the squad, our owners will insist on it and back it with the funds to make it happen as they so generously have in the past.
Untill that happens let's stay humble and grateful and back our manager and players who have given us so much success to celebrate over the years.

So you are saying this is the best the manager can do with this crop of players? I'll be honest though, as I am watching my team get slapped all over the emirates, our recent success counted for very little. Of course it has been a great ride, doesn't make yesterday acceptable. Mental how many fans think it does.

You're speaking some sense. Akanji could now well be in that of ever growing group of players that we've seen the best of.
Akanji sadly has been in that list for the last 3 months. Fatigue, injury or just horrendously out of form, he's been an absolute liability over this period.

Thank you for your post and this particularly.

We all feel shit after yesterday and many of the posters here just make it 100 X worse

I'd say that Akanji has never been on the list that we've seen the best of. As good as he can be at times, he has consistently had too many mistakes in his game. For me he has never been a top top player. He is definitely one on the list to move on sooner rather than later

He has and would surely have been dropped if not for the other injuries. Overall been good for us, but likely to become squad player at best quite soon.

Not worth discussing. Short memory

Didn't help Gifting them a early goal and another scare.
Then we dominated and deserved a good
equaliser.....
Gifted them a quick 2nd via a poor pass and a huge defltion.
We didnt play well after that and they lifted there game.....
Piont being the media coverage is slanted a d Artetas comment about the fans was OTT
Its truly a transition season so lick out wounds and go again

Hes been great for the money but hes not good enough, only near it when alongside a leader like Dias.

Nearly cost us the CL League in 2023 and PL title last season, always got big a mistake in him unfortunately.

we need to sit deeper, that’s all there is to it. Try and limit the amount of open space between our keeper and defenders and use the ball playing skills of the midfielders to play much quicker balls to our attacking players. We’ve seen in the past few weeks how well we get at teams when the game is more stretched. For me the original Pep formula has been well and truly sussed out and has had its day.
I agree but it's just not going to happen is it, after watching it time and time again for nearly 4 months it's clear Pep has no intention of changing how we play despite not having the players capable of playing how he wants to anymore.

I can only really put it down to his ego at this point because he hasn't even tried to shake things up when it so clearly needs it. Its bordering on insanity now watching the same shit and same mistakes happen every week leading to shipping goal after goal after goal.

For some reason losing to that lot hurts more than the actual scoreline. Gabriel and the other cunts really made accepting the Liverpool title win so easy. You have to be a different class of moron and scum to behave how they did while winning fuck all.

Would rather have us Chelsea and Liverpool winning titles for the next 20 years before those red douches getting a chance. I say Liverpool because they look like the closest easy acceptable answer among the Red Scum triplets.

Nottingham Forest for the title!

And dont forget 20 times....how that will hurt united.

The team is currently shit.

Excuses and reasonable reasons have been made all season.

Stop looking back and look towards solutions. Starting from Pep and then onto the players.

Time we made the changes necessary and start the healing/rebuilding process.

Mixture of youth and few experienced players would be my choice. Try limit the senior players involvement to 3/4 per game if possible.

Its time we started to move on now.

exactly. it's not about being "a fanny wipe" or "ungrateful" or "spoiled" or being told "to give your head a wobble" it's about the absolutely bonkers way of repeating the same formula with the same players that has led to so many thrashings, thrashings against pretty average sides. it's avoidable but for some reason, like you say maybe ego he refuses to adapt to the new reality. It's also ripping any belief away from the players, we played well from minute 5 to 55, that lot sat deep and resorted to play acting, the minute the second went in, literally seconds after we had equalised, heads dropped, and its understandable.

It’s scratch your head time with yesterday’s performance, I know what we have achieved with Pep & the team over the years, however, I do expect a bit of fight from everyone, tackles flying in (only Bernardo showed a bit) and players accepting responsibility.
We have thrown games away far too much this season but sadly little changes, everyone knows we have no legs then once the magical 60 minutes appear, that’s it then it’s capitulation time. Very worrying indeed

I just feel that amongst other things we lack any leadership on the field.
Thinking of the players who could provide that we have Dias and Rodders injured. KDB and Gundogan are too old.
We need leaders.
Injuries and an aged squad. Pep thought he could get one last tune out of the current squad. It has not worked.
Then there is the four in a row. I do think this is allied to the aged squad. A combination of mental and physical fatigue.
Then we have the RB and DM conundrum made of our own accord.
The issues are apparent however the solutions seem a long time coming.
I’ll wait though, patiently I will wait.
