Leeds were absolutely gutted to lose Phillips for "just" £42m.

While Akanji, who is having a poor season but was a key part of our treble win in his debut season, was being waved good riddance by Dortmund fans for £15m.
It just goes to show how much of this is down to mentality.

In Philips case he thought he'd made the big time and switched off whereas Akanji thrived alongside better players and his confidence took him up a couple of levels.

Unfortunately it looks like he can't be the one that holds it together, but I'm pretty certain that he'll remain a good squad player when the new lads bolster the defence.

Yes! I’ve been translating the forum since we were linked.

Most think he is very good and are sad to see him go.

Some think he will struggle due to his lack of pace in England and he would be better suited to Spain.

majority seem to rate him very highly
He's young, lack of pace is relative. My feeling is that compared to an aging Gundo and Kova he'll bear comparison well. He looks like quite a unit, again like Rodri. This has to be a positive thing, we need some physicality in MF, we look weak as piss... even compared to Rice and the like...

Have to say, Happy with this window. No fullback not ideal, but we can always look to summer. Who we thinking to let go/sign in summer?

What we need is another Javi Garcia "Golden Period" when he went from Zero to Hero in the last couple of months of the 2014( I think... could have been 2015) season.

Not gonna lie I’ve missed this deadline day excitement.
Obviously I’d have rather gotten our business done weeks ago but here we are.

I won't be happy unless a right back comes in. Many of our problems have come from that position this season. So unless Gonzalez can literally come in and start controlling games like Rodri and minimise the need for proper defenders, I think we'll still struggle. And don't forget, if we don't get CL next season, negotiations for top top players will be VERY different, if not Impossible in the summer.

Prob my favourite comment after reading the Porto forum and translating:

“Holy shit, I hope you have fun in that plastic club, without history, with artificial fans, in that shitty city, with shitty time, shitty food and with depressed Guardiola fucking your head every 5 minutes.

I'm kidding, I wish him all the best, he seems to me an impeccable boy and he was a great player while he was here.

But I didn't tell any lies.

And holy shit gave birth to that new-rich club of shit, because they could have taken the guy at any time and chose to do it at the end of the transfer period.”
Always makes me laugh when you see fans of a club who average 10,000 empty seats a week criticising us for daring to improve and challenge the elite, of which they are not.

Won’t be surprised if its a center half for the remainder of the season. Think Pep mentioned Kodir potentially, and I think he has the pace for it

Hope he’s not in the mould of Fernando or Javi Garcia I thought both of them were gash.

It is interesting that the moment he puts his foot on the ground Manchsetr will automatically be the best midfielder in it (until Rodri comes back), that says enough about how bad the others are.

We still have no real DMF cover for Rodri, but Im OK with this, things are moving.

Anybody coming in means we gona be fortunate to see Gundogan or Bernardo ( hopes both) exiting

Sorry, but why would anyone want Bernardo to leave. He’s still an incredible player with perhaps the best attitude the game has ever seen.

Would you not say KDB? Obviously 2 different players but since KDB’s been back he’s been great.
