It just goes to show how much of this is down to mentality.

In Philips case he thought he'd made the big time and switched off whereas Akanji thrived alongside better players and his confidence took him up a couple of levels.

Unfortunately it looks like he can't be the one that holds it together, but I'm pretty certain that he'll remain a good squad player when the new lads bolster the defence.

This is a good post. I like Akanji and it was great seeing him hit the ground running with us but I always felt he was over-performing to his true ability. Similarly, I think he's clearly a better player than what he's showing on current form. Overall, he's been an excellent value for money signing.

KDB has always had difficulty finding his legs after injury- In the last season or so and especially this one- he's come to find they are no longer there. The magic touch may well be, but without legs he rarely if ever gets a chance ot show it. KDB coming on yesterday had zero if any positive effect.

Arsenal showed us yesterday what a poor defense backed by an on the day poor keeper and for a while now slow and old midfield can do vs a young and in form team.
