Ah, you're right about Aguero. Forgot he joined us just a few months after we first qualified.

Anyway......re being hamstrung by PSR requirements, worth noting we only spent around £20m in the summer and we will be getting at least 50m euros from the CWC. You would also have to think we will be letting go of some big earners this summer.
We will have to let a couple go in summer to make room for any summer signings anyway. I’m not really expecting too many incoming in the summer probably an AM , looks like we’ll still need a right back, possibly another CM and maybe a keeper. Going off this window I’m not sure any of those targets will be the sort of profile to turn down City because we aren’t in the C/L, though I think we will be anyway.

From a Porto fan:

Nico is a solid all-rounder and played as a 6/8 under Sergio Conceição last season. At 1.88cm, he can shield the ball well and is quite robust in tackles.
He also has good technique on the ball and can shape the game well.
His profile makes him the perfect Rodri replacement.

If he could have settled in in the space of a month the last month, why can't he settle in in the space of a month, this month? And still be ready for about two months' worth of fixtures.
Well... including the last game in December when I reckon we "settled" we had:

PL...............Leicester (W) 18th
PL...............Villa (W) 8th
FA...............Salford (W)
PL...............Brentford (D) 11th
PL...............Ipswich (W) 19th
CL...............PSG (L)
PL...............Chelsea (W) 6th
CL...............Brugge (W)

In the this month and a few beyond we have Arsenal (L) 2nd, Leyton Orient, Real Madrid, Newcastle (5th) Real Madrid, Liverpool (1st), Tots (14th), Nots (3rd)

Beyond that- we have a much flatter track of games but it may be a bridge too far to ask for settling with some of the potential lumps we may take after yesterday.

I appreciate that, but the current situation means we really need to get things right in the market. The jury is out on a number of recent signings. However, in Viana we have someone close to the Portuguese league and with an eye for young talent so we've got to hope he's the right fit for us.

I'm not sure why people aren't more positive about this - seems to tick all of the boxes and eerily similar to the Dias move. He's technically good enough as a baseline which is something you can't say for Nunes or Phillips - elite in the air, able to play and influence the game as an 8, tall and rangy which should help with those loose balls etc.

No offence intended to you but that is complete shite.

Rags, Chelsea, and others have proven time and again that being out of the CL doesn't mean half as much as us fans think it does. We all imagine no top player would go to a team that isn't in the CL because of the honour and prestige of the competition, but the vast majority will go where the money is and that's that.

Plus we have the draw of Pep, Haaland, etc.

Any player with half a brain can see they'd still have a better long-term chance of winning the CL and lots of other trophies with City than with almost any other team in Europe, even if they had to make do with one year out of the competition. So I'm confident we would have no problem whatsoever tempting a Wirtz or a Musiala to join us even if we finish outside top 4/5.
Agreed, and players with less than half a brain (a lot less in fact) sign for Utd.

Is the Porto fan chatgpt?

True

The real fucking kicker is that we could have done this a month ago and he’d already be settled in and familiar with the team going into this run of awful fixtures.

Instead we seem to have wasted a month with bids that weren’t going to be accepted before paying the release clause amount anyway, and by the time he’s found his feet our season will probably be over.
More likely Porto didn’t want to release him whilst they were involved in qualifying for the next stage of Europe competition
