The Labour Government

You do know they are in charge these days??
In charge, with a promise not to increase personal taxes. Yet Tory tax cuts were partly funded by cutting central government grants, one of the drivers for councils being in financial trouble (the other being the costs of social care).

Would you blame Labour for all the Tory councils who've gone bankrupt under a Tory government? (And those they bailed out to stop them going bust?)

My point still stands. They are in charge, they can change things. You can't just blame every bad thing on that last government, only the gullible believe the kind of nonsense spouted by politicians. They all do it, blame the last lot.

They inherited a growing economy, since they took power its stalled, fingers crossed they can get it back growing again. My point is do you think that is the last governments fault?

Too late by then, infact its too late now, they are increasing emissions and putting their short and medium GDP ahead of reducing climate change. My wider point is, their is no point in the UK or any other nation shacking ourselves to a green revolution, potentially reducing our economy and manufacturing when all we are doing is then buying the same goods made in a country on that has little or no env control is increasing emissions and then ships the goods from the other side of the world. Unless we do something about that imbalance we are effectively making things worse. I see no sign of the EU or UK doing anything about this.

Imports from China to the UK have gone up as our emissions have gone down and there's have gone up and continue to do so.

It's the same short sighted incredibly stupid idea that somehow we are helping the planet shutting down our blast furnaces when Tata are opening up new ones in India with finacial help from the UK government.

Nah, but I would blame tham for Wales where you predominantly have Labour Councils funded by a Labour Government for 25 years who were supported by a Labour Government in Westminster for the firs 11 or 12 years.

And trust me, Wales is in shit shape now the Welsh Labour Government supported by Labour in Westminster has closed down the Steel works. I mean who needs home made high quality steel? Just wait until we start trying to replenish our naval fleet...

We’d use recycled steel for that if we were building them here surely?

They are far and away the worlds biggest polluter and it's increasing. Projections that they may have peaked are just that projections!

Look at the curve.

Their requirement to burn more coal is increasing.

Tata closed the steelworks, not the Welsh govt

Must admit I'm over the moon they've ratified a 7.49% council tax increase for Trafford - not! Twats.

No proper investment and no support, I am not surprised they shut it.... could've done with a bit of governmental intervention.... still there you go 23 years and fuck all industry, no investment in roads (m4 is a bottleneck) trust me its a shithole.
Sounds like you wanted socialism to bail out a failing industry in capitalism and now are in a grump about it.

you're not far from the truth here.

I believe that essential service such as utilities and to a degree communications infrastructure and maybe internal trans port should be run by not for profit organisations... Instead of that we have sold the family silver and truely fucked the country right up.

Starmer thinks creating GB energy and stopping all oil drilling is gonna solve this.... will increase the problem and the pain felt.... half arsed measures.

I accept the job he has is difficult but he is managing to royally fuck up everything he touches. This is what comes when you have polar idealists sharing the running of the country. PR for me and we might get to see some progress.

Wales has had two huge funding cuts over the past few years.

Think they had more EU money for regeneration than any other EU country up until they weren’t eligible for it anymore.

Secondly, their budget from Westminster has been cut in real terms and has the least GDP per capita in the U.K.

That’s the main reason Wales hasn’t had infrastructure investment, not how your energy is produced.

Yeah hmmmm what did they do with that additional money? Fuck all as far as I can see.
