I think it had more to do with that we simply didn't think Cambiaso is on a level that warrant a fee which would make him the most expensive FB in the world.

Yes, agree with this sentiment. Ill judged for the club to fork out just under €80m for Cambiaso. Whilst still relatively young, probably a good €20m off this. Although am surprised Juventus didn't bite for whatever we were offering, since they're no longer the powerhouse & you're always going to get more money from the Premiership clubs than selling domestically over there. The player also seemed up for the move which for Italians is normally unheard of.

Perhaps, but I think we probably like him more for his versatility. I saw a bit of him when at Bologna and he always struck me as more naturally comfortable on the left.
Football at the elite level appears to be moving in such a way that you really need defenders with pace and power to counter ever faster attackers, and Hato/Gvardiol/Khusenov/Reis would presumably be a pretty pacy and powerful back four that could interchange.

yeah, think the switch hitting thing works well in his favour, with a new RB & LB we're probably staring at 10 defenders next year taking a squad space. Gonna be an interesting summer as well.

He isn't. And even more importantly he is a left back. We need a RB. If we are going to get an utility fullback, it should not cost that much.

I don't see us going for him in the summer, they will likely still want a big fee.

The summer will be our rebuild, and from now until then I'm sure we will scout out a couple of younger cheaper high potential options like we did for the CBs.

We don't need young inexperienced fullbacks we need proven elite players.
