Heard a whisper today that he's targeting a return by next month
Not a chance in hell. You don't return quickly from an ACL there's always a minimum recovery time to it. Next month will be what, 6 months on? I suppose he can technically be back in and around the cfa on a daily basis doing gym work etc if thats what is meant the same way a normal non-athlete would be doing physio around that period but back with a view to playing, absolutely not.

Not even as if there's anything to try and salvage this season anyway. Should take every opportunity to fully rest up get completely fit and ready to go next season.

He's already doing gym work. By targeting a return, I mean, that's when he thinks he'll be back competing to get in the team. Recovery has gone very well apparently.

I don’t think he will be half the player we had most who suffer serious knee injuries don’t come back the same

Are we sure it was a full ACL, I remember there was a fair bit of speculation about what it could be at the time and I don’t ever remember a public acknowledgment of the actual injury. I could be wrong.

It was a grade 3 tear, so the worst one possible.

He'd be a literal medical marvel if that's true.

Pretty sure it was a confirmed rupture.

From Dr Internet on Rodders injury. “it's an isolated ACL, you might be closer to six or seven months out, but when other structures are involved nine months to 12 months is not uncommon.” Renshaw agrees and says, all being well, a player should return between seven and nine months after surgery.”

Not a chance, if he is anywhere near fit enough at the start of next season it will be a huge positive.

This time next season if he is back to 90% of his ability it will be an incredible lazarus return.

This was a horrible injury, he can recover physically but the mental side in terms of trusting the knee will take a long time, just ask or look at players that have had similar.

Listen to what Rodri says in interviews instead of speculating. Rodri knows what he is talking about, as he's being consulted by the best specialists around.

The plan is clear: he hopes to feature in games before the end of the league season, i.e., in May.

Medicine ain't maths, so let's see what happens. He will need at least several months to reach 80% of where he was at before the injury. Even at 80% he would be good enough to start games. In any case, he is likely to be an option in the CWC in June/July if he avoids a setback.

I think he will be training with the team in April, if not late March. They will give him at least 4 weeks of full training before giving him minutes in games.

Think this sounds about right. Friend who had the same injury was told it would be 9 to 12 months recovery and another 9 to 12 months to be back up to full speed as far as the body and brain was concerned. Anything gonna go wrong would be in the first 18 months and the chance of full recovery was about 70% and relapse or some other issues at about 30%.
Was a few years back and my mate could never be described as a professional sportsman (played twice a week 5 aside) but he was told pretty much worked out the same no matter what level you played at. Never really returned but that was due to getting too fat while resting up and not fancying taking the risk.

Difference is though is that athletes at the elite level have care that no ordinary person receives.

No need to rush. He's ready when he's ready and I hope/trust the medical staff to protect our most important asset.

Think Van Dick was 9 month to return in preseason and he's been a success story

I think the aim is to have him fit and raring to go for the Club World Cup.
I won't say "no chance", as that has a ring of unequivocal-ness (made up word!) about it. All I'll say is that I'd be surprised and yes, disappointed, if he played again before next August. We now have cover for him; let him fully recover and recuperate, ready for next season. Remember; he said on more than one occasion before the injury that players (not just him) are expected to play too many games. This is the chance (not in the way we hoped, obviously) to get him rested.
