Tbf foden was poor in his last start and marmoush hasn’t offered much so far
Agreed.

Foden has been poor although what he does offer is goals and I think we need players who know where the net is tonight.

Marmoush was obviously on fabulous form in Germany and he's another goalscorer plus he's one of very few players we have to run in beyond Haaland to cause problems.

That line up tonight lacks goalscorers other than Haaland, Not much goal threats in wide areas with Grealish and Savinho.

I hope I'm wrong.

Well, it’ll be interesting to see how that team sets up, and what the substitutions might be…although I’m sure they will be score dependent.

Here’s hoping Pep hadn’t “outthunk” himself in a big game, yet again!

COME ON CITY!!!

(Stones to track Bellingham???)

But will the 5 subs be used quickly enough
Probably not. That's why I said if he remembers, I'm convinced in some games he gets so engrossed with what is going on he just loses track of time and forgets to make subs. Can't come up with a more plausible reason why he refuses to make subs in some games when there's players out on their arse. Fingers crossed it's in his mind tonight we'll need to utilise a stronger bench to stand a chance.

Those fuckers from Madrid better get ready to get their bones crunched.

Past 2 seasons they Rudigered Haaland.

Now we're gonna out Rudiger the whole Madrid side!

It does seem baffling that when Real have four key defenders out Pep picks a defensive looking side. The only way to beat them tonight is to outscore them, doesn't look possible with that starting 11, prove me wrong City please

That's not overly encouraging. Stones in midfield I completely get, nico probably not fit anyway and not been here long enough, massive risk to play him against real madrid after 20 minutes against a league 1 side.

No kovacic? The guy has been holding our midfield together and should be a shoe in.

Grealish's inclusion is baffling, not done anything to warrant his inclusion imo but that's not the baffling part, it's that it likely means savinho isn't playing in his best position on the left. Savinho against Valverde at right back is a complete mismatch, savinho against mendy though is a decent battle and Valverde will handle grealish as he won't try and take him on.

Bench is the strongest bench we've had for a long, long time though. if Pep remembers we have subs to use, they could have a telling impact. Doku for 20-30 minutes could cause chaos, goal threats from foden and marmoush, energy of kovacic, nico and Nunes. Expect 5 subs to refresh the team against a madrid side that has about 3 attacking options max on the bench.
Presumably we bought him because he's good enough.

I'm with you. We have seen the "usual" lineup perform badly over and over again for months, doing the same again would probably have delivered more of the same. At least we are trying something different this time. And we finally have some options on the bench to change and adapt to how the game is going.
Defensive Solidity! Finally someone in defensive midfield we know is going to add some physicality and calmness on the ball. I like Kovacic but he's our #1 problem right now and playing him as the lone DM would have been a deathwish. KDB in, savio in. bernardo and grealish to control the game. Solid backline, as solid as we can put in. I really like it. Savio, KDB and haaland have what it takes and grealish has shown in the last game that he has something to add going forward too. If we were going to go balls to the wall and outscore them that would have ended badly.
