thank God they had a very hard Atletico game 3 days ago and they missed their best defense in Alaba, Rudiger, Militao, Carvajal line. and that we played at home.

Pep was beaten badly but a not so great Real and honestly 2-4 or 2-5 would have been a more fair result based on pure number chances.

not looking forward to the 2nd leg after we will be given some tough running by Newcastle at the weekend.

we were good for around 25 mins but even in that period Real could have scored one or two.

we cannot defend 2nd halves vs decent sides this season. they raise the tempo a bit and we fall apart so easily.. absolute joke.

sadly we have Newcastle, Liverpool games coming up, and fucking hell they will raise the tempo too.

In all fairness I felt Madrid were the better team on the night, we had spells, but the chances they missed they should be scoring, Disappointed we couldn't hold out for the draw at least.

Even if we held on for the 2-1 win, I still don't think it would be enough at theirs

Same but different. We played much better, when they equalised first, I feared they’d run away with it, but we then played really well, deserved to go ahead. This was different to other games this season.
And we didn’t sit back and invite pressure, we just made two mistakes and got punished.
Ake coming off was huge also.

I thought we were going to get bummed so pleasantly surprised we made a game of it. Both teams a far cry from their best of the last few seasons and obvious why both ended up in the playoffs.

We were never going to win the competition, so it might be a blessing further down the line. Thought we did alright for spells, but that front three were always going to cause us problems. Focus on top four and the FA Cup and go again next season.

Correct. We're as well off going out now. Gives us at least two blank midweeks down the line. Give the players a chance to rest. Top 4/5 has to be the priority now.
