Real Madrid post match thread

Carlo Ancelotti is in the press conference room.

He said tonight's victory was built on Real Madrid's defensive performance.

Ancelotti said his back four had never even trained before let alone play together.

He says he hopes David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger might be fit for the return leg.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, speaking to Amazon Prime: "We didn't deserve to be 1-2 down. We were really dangerous and defended really well. At the end of the day the victory is deserved. We have to stay calm. It's only the first half. Anything can happen at the Bernabeu."

What did you like most about your team? "The character, the personality. We had a good block defensively. It wasn't easy. Tonight we were able to do this."

On Manchester City: "They are a really good team and they played a really good game in my opinion. I think it was a penalty [Foden fouled]. The referee is one of the best in Europe."

On match-winner Jude Bellingham: "It was a big goal. He played a fantastic game and was always dangerous. It was a top game for him."

Knew we were fucked as soon as Lewis came on

Just surprised it took that long for the amateurish fuck ups
Have to agree , absolute no coincidence that when Lewis and Gundogan have been on the pitch at the same time we have collapsed and shipped goals for fun

We were playing against probably the best attack in the world. So a little bit of perspective is needed. We’re not the team we were ,but the continuing cock-ups are a sign of a team lacking confidence. Pep, genius as he is, is making some odd decisions. End of an era I think, but it’s been a great ride.
Best attack in the world???

There are 7 teams in Europe that have scored more goals than Madrid.

With our defence, attacks don't need to be that good sadly.

Very disappointing. Second best throughout, no idea how we took the lead in that game twice, if they'd have won that by 4 I wouldn't have complained. ederson and some poor finishing kept us in it for the majority of the game. 2 late goals to turn a win into a defeat probably won't matter much in truth, even had we taken a 1 goal lead over there it wouldn't be enough. Expect to get comfortably beaten in the second leg.

Their back 4 was there to be exploited and we barely troubled them, what was peps plan? Didn't seem to have one. A top team puts them under immense pressure tonight. We're miles away from being a top team right now with these tactics. His subs were just awful too. why is Lewis coming on ahead of khusanov or Nunes? Why was kdb kept on for 20 minutes after he was completely spent? Why did we not see doku?

How have they come away without a single booking?

Similar feeling to when pellegrini took us to the bernabeu and all we needed was a goal to reach the final and we couldn't even muster any efforts at goal and went put with a whimper. Don't mind going out to a better side as long as we gave it a go, can't say we did tonight.

On yhe bright side, I'd sooner go out now than dump madrid out, go out to somebody inferior in the next round anyway and pave a clearer path for the dippers or arsenal.

All eggs in the fa cup and top 5 basket now to salvage some success and respectability from a dreadful season.

Been saying it for a long time, all these strong teams atm in europe are not relying on striker to score every goal.barca ,real, liverpool etc have great wingers who score and create a lot.
Yeah our midfield aren't contributing to enough goals bar Foden.

On what basis exactly ?
Newcastle are not Madrid.

Madrid can't be gifted more goals in a 2 legged match surely.

We scored a brilliant team goal, won a deserved penalty, despatched.
And our keeper made some very good saves which is why his error is more gauling.

Need some luck with injuries and fitness mind.

Not having that second from ederson.
Either genuinely brain dead or bent as fuck..
You parry left or Right as a keeper.
Never ever in front of you..

Which one is it ederson.
Played in goal have you.

Ball was smashed at him from close range. He did ok with that.

He sliced his clearance and it cost us. However he was decent all night. But yeah he’s obviously bent.

I know emotions are running high but your post is unnecessary.

Shame, he’s for personality, made it in the game and beat the absolute cunts in the terraces.
And ended up a millionaire with a beautiful family. Not bad for a lanky **** who was loaned out to Dulwich. I’m guessing has done better than most.
He's a blue as we'll isn't he? If not, His family are definitely City fans.

I like the lad he seems a really nice guy, He's come through alot during his career especially going to basically every ground and getting absolute pelters by idiots.

Yes he might have made a shit load of money by playing football, He's still human and I'm sure he's been battered and bruised by many fans over the years but he's come through it and thankfully he's one of those lads who is able to laugh it off in his own way.

We bought players to address the obvious issues we have and didn’t start any of them. Yet Pep seems surprised that the thing that has happened 5 or 6 times, happened again.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt this season, he must think they will miraculously reverse age at some point. If for some reason we don't recruit in the summer and continues playing them next year then some serious questions will be asked
