Bernardo shouldn't be anywhere near the starting eleven, invisible every time he plays now, oh wait he gives us a bit of energy. Says it all
 
I'd play nunes in midfield. He might not be the best player we have but at least he has a bit of pace and can/will run.
 
League is the priority now chumps league is gone rest and rotate in Madrid.

Why is the second leg irrelevant? We were only beaten by two lapses in concentration.

Thankfully we have professionals who will always believe in themselves

That's the ideal first choice side for the rest of the season. Obviously injuries will play a part.
But it allows Khusa to bed in before he transitions to CB.
Stones looked OK last night certainly compared to Kovacic.

Bernie is the conundrum. He's been overplayed but I still believe he has a future here if used judiciously.

Lewis is not a defender or a defensive midfielder so stop playing him there. He can come on late in games further forward.
 
I think Pep needs to play wingbacks to make up for our weaknesses in midfield and mitigate whatever defensive weakness the RB he chooses has.

A 3-4-1-2 with a compact midfield and making use of the WBs attacking strengths while mitigating weakness
 
I feared for this one more than the Madrid game.

Newcastle play in a way that is so unsuited to us.

No doubt they will play us off the park in their home but I don’t get this should have scored this or should have scored that. They didn’t score because we saved the shots or put them under pressure and they skied it.
If we’re going on near misses, we could have scored three more from Erl/Akanji/Phil.

Fair play for remaining positive, but let's not forget that Ederson made arguably 4 or 5 very good saves to keep the score down, whilst I don't really recall Courtois having too much to do other than the Foden shot.

We were beaten by a better side and I expect the same in the 2nd leg.

Agreed its not a total write off, but they'll score at the Bernabeu which will leave us needing to win there 3-1; just can't see us achieving that with this current group of players.

We do have a puncher's chance - we have players that can hurt them but we need to execute better, play a competent midfield and have a better strategy.

Still, they really did have excellent chances that they fluffed. 5 of those bug chances were the second half as well. 1000085936.png

Not saying we will win or find it easy, but they will go there believing they can (which was my point)
