Nightmare game to try and pick ourselves up in. Can only see an in form Newcastle giving us the runaround. Fwiw team wise: Ortega, Nunes, Dias, Khusanov, Gvardiol, Kovacic, Gonzalez, Savinho, Doku, Marmoush, Haaland
Think that'll be pretty close - although I wonder if Reis comes into CB and Khusanov is tried at RB, let's face it we've seen stranger selections

I see Villa as our biggest threat for top 4. If they stay in the CL for longer it will help, but they've got the squad to best compete for the top 4 in my opinion. Chelsea and Newcastle are inconsistent and I still think Forest will be dragged back into things. I'd take a point in this one considering 5th is likely to be good enough for the CL anyway. Keeps us above Newcastle at least. 3pts would be a huge boost for the players though.

Madrids midfield wasn’t great but I can’t imagine what Newcastle will do to us if we play like we did that second half. Especially with Isak Gordon in form and their immense physicality in the middle of the park.

Joelinton, Tonali, Bruno G midfield scares me. high stamina, physicality in them. dont think we can get away playing Gundo or Kovacic in it. but Bernardo was fucking played even vs Orient, then flogged vs Real and he will be starting in the Bernabeu too so can we flog him again vs Newcastle for 90 mins? dont think so..
(ad then we need him vs dippers too)

Lewis obviously shouldnt be anywhere near midfield Tonali, Joelinton eats him alive...

big game for Nico, not a the most ideal midfield opponents for a PL debut tho...

After this season's European capitulations, the only time we've bounced back strongly was against Chelsea. In all the other games we were evidently fragile. Newcastle's away form is good and their physicality in midfield will test us sorely. If fit, do we protect Nico from the inevitable battering or throw him in with Stones? Doubt both can last 90 minutes, so what is Plan B?

Will be a tough one this. If we're below par I can see us coming unstuck. No more defensive calamities please City.

Have to hope our fragile players will be able to play another game Saturday and next Wednesday.
No room for sentiment now, we all know that but Pep's forgotten it.
No starting place for KDB (Supersub role) or Gundogan.
Akanji is too fragile.
No bench place for Rico, sorry lad you're just not good enough yet, or Nunes (not a stand-in fullback).
The new players need to play this game 90 mins and be ready for the return in Madrid - Omar Marmoush, Khusanov, Nico.

Goalkeeper - heads or tails.
Defence - Khusanov, Dias, Stones (wrap him in bubble wrap until Saturday), Gvardiol,
Midfield - a bit thin on the ground but Bernardo, Foden, Nico.
Attack - Omar, Erling, Savinho.
Key bench - Doku, McAtee, Kovacic, O'Reilly, KDB.
Other bench - any defender capable of playing at least 30 minutes, hopefully Akanji.

Strong defence, mobile midfield, attack capable of scoring goals.

Good shout.
You're leaving out Gundogan - I doubt that Pep will.

You have to hope Newcastle's injury list stays as big as it is for just a few more days. Gordon and Joelinton in particular will be huge misses for them.

Can only see a hammering here. They play with real intensity. All their players can run all day long and through brick walls.

Midfield will get absolutely bullied by Joelinton, Bruno and Tonali. And if Rico starts Gordon will think Christmas has come early!!!

Pack the defence and midfield and play on the break is our best chance.

Small consolation that its on Saturday at 3pm so I've no means of having to watch it, or it being beamed live to the world again on a Super Sunday showing how bad we are yet again.

Small comforts.

I'd play Nunes in midfield on Saturday, He's not the standard required at the club but the one thing he can offer is his running ability, Something that can't be said for our other midfield players.

Nico Gonzalez, Nico O Reilly and Nunes...

Players with legs, Can't be much worse than what we are watching.
