Honestly, I'd start blooding the new signings now with next season in mind. I know Pep won't, but that's what I'd do.

  • Rushing our centre halves back only for them to get injured again means we have not had a settled back line all season.
  • Persisting with a mix of Gundogan, Kovacic, and Bernardo as our midfield base has resulted in constant capitulation.
  • What I'd do to bring us some stability;
    • Stones and Ake to the bench when fit. Use them in the return madrid fixture and when one of the settled, more reliable 11 needs a rest or rotation. They're two of the best in the squad, but their dropping in and out of the side is disruptive.
    • Settled back line of Akanji - Khusanov - Dias - Gvardiol for the rest of the season.
      • Akanji always performs better at RB than CB. If he's injured, Rico for league opposition where inverting makes sense where he won't be hung out to dry and his attacking positional sense outweighs his pace and physical deficiencies in defence. If tougher opponent that's where you can use Stones if fit or move Khusanov there, etc.
    • No more Gundogan coming on in a deep roll. He only comes on as a sub for the 10 position when we have a good buffer.
    • Once fit, Nico plays with Bernardo as our double pivot. Stones can fill in here too if fit, but not as a starter. Let Nico settle with a reliably fit (if not performing) Bernardo who knows the system.
    • Marmoush in the KDB 10/second striker roll
    • Savinho on one wing, someone else on another. Probably Foden but wingers rotating in and out isn't an area of concern.
I'd also give O'reily a proper shot at midfield in favour of Kovacic and Gundogan, maybe even Bernardo, but I've completely resigned myself to that not happening.

Newcastle isn't Madrid.
We did beat Chelsea and Forest at home, we can beat Newcastle.
The lads are hunted by all the silly mistakes of this rotten season, but they have to remind the good moments and then just fukcing play.

We have all we need to beat sides like Newcastle at home.
Don't overthink. Shake it off and go out to win on Saturday.

The only reason I put Bernard is that he is eternally guaranteed a place in the team coached by Pep, no matter how bad he is.

Other players are subject to change.
 
Dias and Ake can only play a half each, Stones will need a full recovery which complicates things

Literally anyone over those 2. Khusanov, Reis or Stones at right back over Nunes, literally any defender. They're going to be up against Gordon, he'll rinse Nunes.

Just have Gonzalez sitting and anyone who will run around him.

I think we'll struggle anyway but if those 2 start we're knackered to put it politely.
