In this case, they have told ANY LEGITIMATE NEWS OUTLET that doesn’t recognize the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, they will not be invited to Trump press conferences, and thus be harmed in their effort to exercise freedom of the press.

How would you feel if the only press allowed to cover his events were those outlets that called him Grand Poobah Donald J Trump? Or, had to simply refer to him as Greatest President Ever, Sir Trump? Or, who reported, by Friday, that the 2020 election WAS stolen and they regret not informing their readers earlier?

In short, if the ONLY way to gain access to the President is to advocate and support his lies IN PRINT IN YOUR PUBLICATION, how is this different from Hitler’s control over the press?

I will NEVER call it the Gulf of America. EVER.

And, not to ask an obvious question, “Why is this SO important to him that he is banning media that doesn’t do as he says?”

I didn't mention his control of the press - another matter entirely, and when he gets anywhere near Rupert murdoch in that respect I might start caring.
He's laughing at people like yourself getting their knickers in a twist over the name of a piece of ocean. I doubt the Mexicans are arsed and it's not like shipping lanes, GPS coordinates or fishing/mineral rights are changed in any way. Overall it's like when they (not the Republicans and trump) changed the name of a marathon bar to snickers in real terms.

He’s using this ridiculous issue to try and control the press so if you didn’t mention it perhaps you should have. You’re not seeing the reasons for the bullshit which are a lot more malign than the bullshit itself.

He's also using it to play to his crowd and set the other wailing which is what's happening on this thread. It's amazing the same people fall for the same nonsense time after time. He's sat there signing his EOs which wont happen with his big black crayon and taking the piss.

Of course he’s playing to his crowd but that’s not the thing people should be worried about. It’s his assault on democracy and in this case accountability that’s far more important than the dog and pony show.

It is an easily visible example that is symptomatic of his childish, bullying tactics that presume this is all a game of global Monopoly and he’s going to own all the good stuff and you’re going to have to go cap

Compared to the ACTUAL TECH BRO robber barons he has been courting, and who have been courting his MONOPOLY favor.

It'd probably piss him off more to sidestep the issue by not mentioning it or referring to 'the ocean between the US and mexico'. There are many ways around compelled speech.

We use it all the time as it’s one of the chief drivers of weather in the Eastern U.S., destination of many hurricanes, etc.

I’ll be flying over it on Saturday night (Houston-São Paulo) and you can be 100% CERTAIN I will call it the Gulf of Mexico!!

The first step is to ban organisations that don’t go along with the bullshit. If a news organisation goes along with it the next step will be threatening to ban organisations that refuse to promulgate his lies. The ones that do are already favoured so it’s likely to happen. It will only stop when it is a state controlled fully compliant media like in Russia.
