Injuries 2024/25 | Ake & Bobb return to training

Tbf, Guardiola himself did say that Khusanov could play right-back:

He can play centre back in the middle or on the right, right back and in a three at the back. Different positions.”

From what little we've seen of him it would appear he has more suitable attributes than Nunes to play there, and the thought of Rico playing there against Gordon at the moment. sends shivers down my spine. I think Rico gets a lot of unfair stick (Edghill, anyone?) but needs taking out of the firing line for a while.

I would like to see Khusanov play at right back but Pep has to judge whether he thinks he's ready. His development as a player is the most important factor. City fans will be supportive.

He said Nunes could play there too though…

We’ve had a lot of success playing centre backs as full backs. Maybe trying Khush there could make us a bit more solid at the back. We need to do something to stop us conceding every time the opposition attack. Stones as a 6 worked really well. We now have an abundance of centre backs even if a couple of them are new and young. Pep should try them it can’t be any worse than the last 4 months.
Maybe. I'm worried about Khusanov's agility but then again akanji and walker aren't the most agile either. And maybe we don't really have another options to play there, however, if Vini destroys Khus, that could have long term effecs in terms of his confidence.

I think you’re right and hope he takes to it like a duck to water, but he’s incredibly inexperienced.

It’ll probably make or break him.
I can already see in two games he's going to become a great player. He's soon alert to danger, thinks fast, acts fast, runs fast and good in the tackle. Once he settles in and learns English we'll start to see the best of him.

Well, I have seen Akanji's mistakes this season, he has below his usual levels. I am hoping Khusanov can change things in that position, as long as he doesnt get some of the shit thrown at him by the media that he has had already after just 1 game. He's a new, young player, joining the PL and the media are just keen to throw him under the bus the twats.
To be fair it was a horrible mistake, no one through him under the bus and most people were impressed that he kept going and came through that horrible opening period.

The kid has huge balls, it would have been very easy to take him off after 5 mins

If Gordon plays (he's a doubt).

When we signed him the reports he was supposed me big and quick. He certainly looks like a unit that would run through brick walls. Maybe Pep would be concerned about him on the ball and offering nothing going forward. But he could slot into a back 3 with the ball and let Josko roam forward.

Good signs so far. Khusanov is above all else quick and powerfuI which are exactly the attributes you need to defend against Gordon. But Gordon is very tricky. A very good player. I wouldn't choose to play Khusanov vs Chelsea or Newcastle for his first games but perhaps it is time to take a risk. Pep is facing a very challenging season.

I think being used as a right back has never looked right. To me he's a midfield player with goals in him.

Based on what we've seen of Lewis and Nunes at RB it's fair assume Gordon will turn them both inside out. Khusanov is still an unknown quantity but you can already see he has good defensive attributes even though he still looks raw and inexperienced right now. I was hoping he'd have started against Vinicius because I had a feeling he'd have risen to the occasion but only Pep knows why he started Akanji to then bring on Lewis when he went off injured.

Thing is we now have very little RB options.

Stones Dias Ake Gvardiol is absolutely fine however the chances of them staying fit until May are probably at a 0.

We’ll be in trouble if he doesn’t start throwing Khusanov and Reis into games. If they believe they’re good enough to be added to the squad in January then it’s time to test the waters.

Hahaha. Not the match day thread ones! Most people still complain about Josko as a LB.

Can we we bring Walker back from his loan? <only half joking>

I am going off what the pundits said during the match, then the glee in the newspapers and media the next day, then keown still banging on about it during the Leyton orient game.

It was a mistake. That's all. I don't see that coverage when any new young player plays his first game in the PL.
