It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

Viana may have a young south american in mind? I`d prefer someone like Ederson but not sure we can keep Rodri, Nico and say Ederson or Valera happy in one squad? Nico O`Reilly deserves a go though surely?
OReilly's not a 6, and doubt he ever will be tbh. Decent CM/AM though in a year or two .

I think the last few big games has shown Kovacic up, he goes for me if we can bring in someone like Ederson,Tonali or another, maybe even 2 CM players are needed.
Gundo -> Nico G
Nunes -> O’Reilly
Bernardo -> Baleba

And then
Kovacic -> Kimmich (free transfer)
if he wants to go Saudi or Galatasaray

If we are keeping Echeverri in the squad next season and registering Reis, then if my counting is right ( it may well not be) 3 need to go before we bring 1 in, not even counting Walker and Phillips. So yes if Bernardo and Kovacic as well as Gundo Nunes went then Baleba and Kimmich could come in but, think we would want somebody like Cambiaso not Kimmich who I think will probably stay at Bayern and doesn't want to play full back, we would also need KDB to go too if we wanted somebody like Wirtz too. My guess is Bernardo stays another year.
That's before we get to keepers, all 3 of which could possibly need replacing.

Txiki trying to setup an timed email to go out in the summer as we speak.

Thing they leave him another year (unless someone bids early) and go back in 2026. He's one of the few HG players i can see on the list
I could see us getting Branthwaite over Wharton.

maybe be depends on fitness of our CBs and Wharton for the rest of the season. If both end up at city with 24 months i wouldn't be shocked about it.
Livramento, an English 2nd/3rd GK, potentially Mubama

Livramento, Branthwaite, Wharton would be my guess of players on the HG we have an eye on if we need to buy there.

He’ll be pushing for a move in the summer.
Doubt it.

I know its a squad game but we need to keep everyone happy at the same time?
Works great when everyone in a small elite squad is fit, but this season we've seen the long-term folly of rinsing dry a small squad. Ours is physically, mentally & emotionally drained.

You can only flog a thoroughbred so much before it collapses. This is exactly what's happened to us this season... The perfect storm of age, injuries & fatigue.

The small squad thing is a bit overblown, before January we were 2 players short of the maximum, post January we are 2 over so Reis and Echeverri can't be registered for C/L. Think the argument is more about balance and quality /age of some of the squad this season.

think the key work is small 'elite' squad. we dont have enough quality/trust in the players making that small number as we used to,

Quality is the key. The small squad being those standing a realistic chance of being selected for big games with a fully fit squad. This doesn't include Nunes, Philips, Kova & a host of academy products.

Remove them & we quickly see the elite level quality we have left. But when you factor in age, we then have to remove Walker, KDB & Gundog. BUT when you factor in injuries, we have to factor in Stones.

Taking all the above into consideration, alongside Rodri being out for the season & losing Bobb long-term too, you end up where we are today. We're not as fully stocked as it may seem at first glance.

Agree though think we are on the way to fixing that. If we only add just to throw a name in, Wirtz and Cambiaso and lose KDB , Gundogan, Walker, Nunes, Phillips, Kovacic the 17 free squad looks like

ORTEGA
EDERSON
DIAS
CAMBIASO ??
GVARDIOL
KHUSANOV
AKANJI
REIS
RODRI
GONZALEZ
ECHEVERRI
SILVA
WIRTZ. ??
DOKU
SAVINHO
MARMOUSH
HAALAND

Does the above mean the end of Stones & Aké?

I think this is a main thing. Previous years we could easily rotate 4-5 players each game without much difference in quality. Thats certainly not the case anymore, forcing many players to play more or less every game they can.

No, the Home grown 4 are seperate. As it stands
Carson
Stones
Ake
Grealish

Obviously if any of those go they would need a homegrown replacement for maximum numbers.

Plus we have for next season as it stands 3 club trained
Foden
Bobb
McAtee

Then for the B list
Lewis
O’Reilly
Any other U21 academy players

OK, I get you. Those options certainly looks stronger than what we currently have, plus there'll be another round of questions surrounding Silva, Stones & Aké next season.

There's also the issue of fullbacks. I'd rather us have 4-5 CB's & a full array of overlapping FB's. It's a pity Alphonso Davies has extended at Bayern. He was nailed on for Real, but seems to have gone backward whilst he was seeing out his final three seasons in Germany.

It looks like his average form over that period has ended Real's interest in him, so extending at Bayern was probably the best offer he was gonna get.
