Away fans / tourists in home sections

Away fans get in the home ends when home fans don't buy up tickets. That's always been the case. I did that at Blackburn away and elsewhere, and I am sure you've done it too. I also celebrated like mad at Blackburn too.
City need to do more than just wash their hands of season ticket holders not joining the Cup Schemes and come up with something better than to just ignore local fans and list chunks of hundreds of tickets together on football tour sites when proper City fans can’t get two seats next to each other anywhere in the stadium buying through the club, never mind a family or group of mates.

City need to be more local, be more ‘Manchester’ (that is our name, afterall), do more to get more Mancunians going to CL games. And before you get your race card out again, that includes all Mancunians from anywhere in the city of any skin colour.

I live in Wythenshawe, Manchester’s biggest district by some distance, a district with shit loads of City fans, yet City are not a presence here at all. If you didn’t have a tele, the internet or smartphone and lived round here, you wouldn’t know City existed. They’re far more bothered about taking trophies and ex-players on tour to Boston and Bangkok than they are Baguley.

And while most people do have those things, and while many do go to City, there are also many across the whole city who find that they can’t afford both a season ticket and all the cup games so come out of the Cup Schemes… or if they don’t have a season ticket, they can’t afford £52.50 and £71 in the same week for Madrid and Newcastle so have to pick and choose.

I think it’s already gone too far but before they lose the lot of us, our boardroom need to travel to Germany and see how their clubs do it. Instead of following the American model and Madrid model of anybody from anywhere at any price, they need to learn how the German clubs look after their core fanbases. Bayern look after their fans much much better than City do yet still smash record revenue figures every year. City don’t have to ruin our support to hit the revenue they want to.

Liverpool have great initiatives for their local fans: 1 week before tickets go on sale to anyone else, people with an ‘L’ post code get to buy tickets first. Also, all children’s tickets are £9 in every stand (bar the new AR 2nd tier). On Saturday for City against Newcastle, children’s tickets start at £41. If our chikdren’s tickets cost £9, maybe a local Dad+lad could have gone to both Madrid and Newcastle games.

Half and half scarves invented for the away fan to sit in the home section When I see them I always assume they are away fans, no self respecting City fan would wear one of those overly priced rags
Should be turned away at the turnstiles, no different to wearing away teams shirts or colours. Drive me mad seeing these vendors outside ambushing coach loads of tourists as they pull into the car parks.

You can't sell them in the club shop and turn people away for wearing them.

I'm not sure if they still sell them as I was last in it is 2014, but they even had a 20/20/20/20/20 for all 5 teams in the group one year, wonder if they did a 7 team one this year? There was also an MCFC official one with Shalke on it without the C.

It was reported that the club have told City Matters there will be no new full season tickets anywhere, only flexi golds

Yes, but that’s for the start of next season, before the new stand is finished.

I’m pretty sure no one has said they’ll be no new ones in ‘26- ‘27. Or possibly even half season ones next year, depending on when it’s ready.

Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta, said he was “embarrassed and ashamed” after a reported 30,000 Eintracht Frankfurt fans made it into the Camp Nou for Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final despite away fans being allocated only 5,000 tickets.

“Frankly what happened today makes me feel embarrassed and ashamed,” Laporta told Barça TV. “There were many fans of the other team and not many of ours. I’m very sorry for what has happened.

“What we can avoid are certain situations but as of now, we will have to be much more strict. We can’t allow these situations to happen.

Xavi Hernández called the situation a “miscalculation” and said it did not help his side, who suffered their first defeat in 16 matches in all competitions. “I’ve tried to tell the players that the important thing is what happens on the pitch, but logically this could have affected us; it’s very clear,” the coach said.

Problem is most people following Madrid in the City sections weren’t from Spain! We’ve so many neutrals attending CL games now that in some parts of the ground it doesn’t feel like a home game anymore.
It was bizarre on tuesday night, even outside the ground you could see/feel it was very different from any other game.
As you say, they werent ‘madrid’ fans, they were just there for the spectacle.

Met 2 brummy lads in the bar at half time who were there because “they just got tickets”.

Footage of the everton fans from their derby the other night made me ache for those days of 32,000 staunch city fans.
Those days are gone now. I know its a consequence of our success but its a shit consequence all the same .

I wont be in the champs league scheme next year.
If we only qualify for europa or even the conference i might fancy that. But nope, im done with the etihad being a tourist attraction now

There will be 400 hotel rooms to fill next year - and they ain’t getting booked by local supporters so it’s only going to get worse.
I agree, it’s going to get worse. I get the impression the entire expansion is being built for tourists and neutrals. The hotel/corporate sections aren’t being created for our local fans

There were six of them at the top of the Metrolink steps. They all know each other and work as a crew. It's like they own that lucrative spot on the edge of the Etihad Campus. Good luck to anyone who tries and sells half and half scarfs on their spot
Is that private land or, as it's at a metro link station, classed as council property, such as the roads?
If it's the latter, we should bombard Burnham for him to send inspectors and find out if they have licences to street trade and if they're company registered for VAT etc

And the H&H scarfs contain the Manchester City bage which surely is trademarked

I've said it before, H&H scarfs should be banned inside the stadium, one day theirs going to be serious trouble, dread to think what might happen if Millwall & City both get through the next round and are drawn together at the Eitihad.
