It’s Quiet 20 - What is the Wirtz that could happen?

OK, I get you. Those options certainly looks stronger than what we currently have, plus there'll be another round of questions surrounding Silva, Stone & Aké next season.

There's also the issue of fullbacks. I'd rather us have 4-5 CB's & a full array of overlapping FB's.
Yes, plus all 3 keepers are question marks this summer as is McAtee.
My complete guess is Silva Ake, Stones, Grealish all stay at least one more season if only for stability if nothing else.
Think at least 2 keepers will need changing to add to the new AM and full back in my original list of 17.

I don’t think we need a backup for Rodri next season I’d use Stones, I’ve been asking for him to play there for ages and he did well against Madrid, with his injury record I’d use him as back up and only play him when Rodri needs a rest, let him see his contract out and go for someone else the following season.

That plan worked so well this year ! With both Rodri and Stones injured

Ye but we have Philips! We have Nico now as well so I can see Stones not having to be used in the back 4, like I said it would be a limited roll then let him go after next season, unless he goes back to Everton.

I am not so sure we will see many leave. The players people are mentioning are either legends, injured and hard to sell or hard to sell.

It’s also clear we need depth.

I can see all our goalies leaving. Finding replacements for them and adding depth in midfield and fullbacks going to be a lot of work before we think about replacing injured CB,

Bernardo keeps going and not actually going

Grealish I don’t think anyone will come for him

Kevin I don’t want to go but that’s probably sentimental.

Nunes and Kova are ok

Agreed 100%.

The need for a revolution was so unnecessary. If we'd gone down the evolution route when the physical, mental, emotional & ageing stress our squad was under was so obvious, we could've avoided the crisis we're now facing.

I think this is a main thing. Previous years we could easily rotate 4-5 players each game without much difference in quality. Thats certainly not the case anymore, forcing many players to play more or less every game they can.
This is why I was absolutely perplexed when after seeing Philips wasn't the Fernandinho replacement we'd hoped for, we went & bought Kova & Nunes especially.

Kovacic for Gundog I suppose I get, but Nunes? All we've achieved is allowing our squad to age, whilst rinsing the best of them dry, whilst lowering the over all quality of our squad's gene pool in the process.

When you add up the likes of Nunes, Philips, Kova, McAtee, then add in the ages of Walker, KDB & Gundog, then add in the permacroc Stones & the EDS lads having to fill the bench, it doesn't look good on paper, never mind in reality.

What the fuck have we done to ourselves? \0/

Over the last 2+ seasons we have let too many players go without getting in replacements of a similar or better quality.
Mahrez, Laporte , Sterling, Alvarez just seemed to drift off overnight.
To a lesser extent, Cancelo, Jesus, Zinchenko.
Gvardiol and Savinho are welcome additions but that's about it.

Complacency & Pep's philosophy of a small elite squad who all get ample game time. It worked, BUT it was always a high risk strategy as we're now finding out.

It's painful watching us being given the runaround from teams we've become used to trampling under foot. Our minds are willing, but our bodies & skill-sets are weak.

We did exactly what Utd did and got complacent and thought we could just turn up this season and teans would shit The bed but even though we where winning at the start teans where already finding a way to bypass our midfield also we had a second striker wanting to leave all summer yet we didn’t think he needed replacing and our balon dor winner was already tired and actually got injured at the euros but still our arrogance thought we could manage and how wrong where the manager and recruitment team . Overall a massive clustetfuck keeping legend and not evolving has probably cost us this season and next and then by the time we are getting. Back pep will leaving so then we will have to look to replace him . Exciting times ahead for us .

If he hasn't given up on the World Cup participation, I assume he'd like to find in the summer a new club where he can get regular starts. He can't afford to get imprisoned here if he wants to be in the England Squad. (As it stands, it's doubtful whether he gets selected for the qualifying fixtures in March, even if he will have recovered from his current injury by then.)

The idea we are getting Wirtz is ridiculous. Most obvious Bayern signing ever- he’s likely just signing this deal to ensure Leverkusen get paid when they trigger his RC and they don’t have to negotiate with Bayern (they want to sell abroad)

New deal with Leverkusen containing a RC valid 2026 apparently.

We haven’t rebuilt the squad from a position of strength post treble to attract guys like this. The squad is old, ageing and pretty obviously coming to the end of a cycle. Our poor recruitment has sped this up.

We are rebuilding from a position of weakness - stop talking about these guys

He can enjoy being second fiddle to Musiala then. We see how it goes in the national team where Musiala completely outplays since Wirtz is a pure 10.
