City launch legal action against the Premier League | Club & PL reach settlement | Proceedings dropped (p1147)

I'm perfectly upbeat. It is a top PR win and awful optics for Masters. But I am being asked about tangible wins for City. Those haven't changed at all since the initial decision. That is my view. I said before anyone (on 14 October) that this further determination on blue pencil was likely to go with City - but to what end? That is not clear to me at this stage.
What would be a tangible win, in your view?

Sorry, I should clarify - not a challenge, just curious

RAG CAFE -
I do wonder whether the Premier League could re-brand and create a new league where as the poster above says - entry for non state owned clubs only.

Surely there would be no stopping that and would work if there were enough members?
Rag Cafe at it`s finest sweet Jesus talk about desperate and deluded.
Not much of a league with just the 3 bent bastards in there, rags scousers and gunners

Great isn't it. Is rawk still in lockdown? - I bet they are going mental in there.

I think they originally were keen to get a verdict that APT was unlawful by object. As I said, this was rejected by the Tribunal. But they got one or two useful concessions so it has been worth it. Plus some big damage to the PL exec.
I think they have established in people’s minds that the PL need to ensure their rules are lawful and that they have not done that satisfactorily to date. As you say, no huge benefit to City but the principle is now well accepted. A benefit to the whole PL. Looking forward, it establishes City as a club that the new independent regulator should consult, after all we were the only club to vote in favour of the regulator. I note that the gov has given short shrift to those redshirt voices expressing opposition to the bill.
I am surprised that the PL appears not to have held talks with City. After all, that is what a good organisation would do, ie try to understand and meet the concerns of one of its members.
I think the PL will emerge much stronger as a result of all this, provided of course that Masters goes.
Having done the game a deal of good, we will still be cast in the role of villain.

Well, fuck me. I go to bed early one night and all hell breaks loose. I should do it more often :)

A few thoughts.

This latest judgment vindicates those that suggested this was likely. You know who you are.

It's not fair to point at people who honestly thought this wasn't likely. It's all just opinions and it's up to the individual to weigh them up and believe them or not.

It's very fair to point and laugh at people who take the word of the PL as gospel. That includes 98% of the press.

Nick de Marco playing the lawyer game: I didn't say this at the time, but it was obvious this was going to happen. I have more respect for people who give their opinion at the time, even if turns out to be wrong, than bullshit like that.

The only winner here is City. The ten year Etihad deal now presumably sails through.

If I were Newcastle, I would sign some major new sponsorships right now. APT2 will now likely be found in City's favour as well and so there will be a short period before the PL make their new APT rules (if they have the strength) during which they can make their "APT" deals unhindered.

I can't see any significant claim against the PL for this, other than costs. The win is getting Etihad through.

There is no effect on United. This is nothing to do with PSR. Yet!

Martin Samuel may be spot on, but he is a little premature with his Everton and Forest comments. PSR isn't null and void (yet) but I will say this. He was clearly briefed by City after the first APT judgment. If he is being briefed by City now and coming to the conclusion PSR may be in trouble, then it's all about to get very interesting.

Not sure what the club does about APT2 now. They have got what they wanted. Continue as a matter of principle? Continue just to show the PL who's boss?

Now that APT has been kicked out, and the tribunal agreed that APT was a vital part of PSR, will the club move to get PSR declared null and void? That would be some end game.

Just a few thoughts. As you were.

I did but it made me laugh that we have to wait until after APT2 to judge after being hung drawn & quartered as soon as we face any accusations.

Anyone who thinks that is missing the point, I think. Unless I am very wrong, the ten year Etihad deal now sails through. That is what this was about. Not about having the APT rules kicked out, per se. Who cares? In ten years time the world will look very different, Masters will be history and United, Liverpool and Arsenal will be in the Championship :)

To summarise, football was good and fair when United were winning everything, but is rubbish and unfair now that they’re shit.
City are only successful coz they outspend everyone not like when Fergie won everyfink with 11 local lads from the class of 92

Am I wrong that, after the initial judgment, the Etihad deal was only set aside but the PL wanted to re-assess it under the amended rules, but now the whole ten year deal sails through because there aren't any rules?

I am guessing that was the club's objective all along, in which case they now have what they wanted?

The 3 points gained in the first tribunal seemed to suggest the etihad and first bank deals could or should be allowed. The leagues pathetic attempt to deny such a lucrative well earned contact is petty considering the clubs unprecedented success. It had one aim, stop commercial monies going into the club from any business based in the UAE.

The shareholder loans is seemingly a Trojan horse as we had no problem with those loans when first introduced. Very good work from the legal team to show bias and favouritism towards some clubs(arsehole) while others have been treated like scum.

Now, we are somewhat in the dark going forward. I don’t believe city want the rules thrown out unless they impact our commercial profitability. Maybe we are making a point towards the red tops that we will fight any new set of rules and challenge their legality in uk courts. The league can’t keep getting a kicking unless the plan all along is to join a super league or maybe they just don’t care about self destruction?

It’s probably more likely that the rules put in place were weak, cobbled together and badly worded thus easily taken apart as we have seen with Leicester. Incompetence and quacking like a duck at the behest of the illustrious historically organic class of 92 sky clubs.

The rags are now going to go the youth route as apparently they can’t buy without selling. Now that sounds great on first glance but maybe it’s a way to buy time and play only youth, a reset of sorts.

A win is a win no matter how we get it. Apt 1 has been a success. The next result will be the 115/130 then onto Apt 2 which again seems to be null and void unless those amendments have passed this blue city test.

All this could have been avoided if the clubs behind masters had played a straight hand. Thankfully we have world class operators at the club. They continue to deliver when it matters.

So forget who is right and wrong tonight on the finer points and be happy city have given the league a very public bloody nose.

The next blow will be a knockout.

Dont be attacking each other over legal rules that no fucker has any interest in. Especially when said rules are unlawful, unfounded and unworkable.

Are we #more than a club yet?

-:)
