We can take risks in the final 30 minutes or so. Taking big risks from the start is likely to backfire: they created many chances against 5 defenders at the Etihad. Letting them run at us should be avoided, but without fear or using a low block or 5 defenders. Invite them to high press us and use long balls to our forwards.

The longer we stay in the game, the more nervous they will get. So, they'll try to swarm us at some point, it's up to us to exploit the spaces efficiently.
Gut feeling is that if we approach this conservatively, the final 30 will be academic, because the tie will be lost already.
We were conservative in the first leg and should have been 3 down after 15 minutes, but for inexplicably poor execution on their part.
For us to turn this around will require an extraordinary result - probably requiring extraordinary measures.
99% they will score - 90% multiple times.
We'll probably need four just to reach extra time.
Still, time will tell...

That’s the spirit

I want to get excited and believe we can turn this tie around but I can’t.
We had a good game against Newcastle but that doesn’t make all of our frailties disappear.

Plus it’s Real at the Bernabau.

I just can’t see it happening.
Going to be difficult but an early goal for us could make it feel different

I’m not particularly confident either

Does anyone know whether the Cockroaches will be asking their mates at UEFA whether they can close the roof again? Weather reports look good in Madrid so there is no reason to shut the roof apart from an attempt to help the home team. We shall see. Let's beat the cockroaches. Come on City.

Best say nothing then

First goal vital in this, we get it and I think we could build on it. They get it and we could fold, tie over. Coulda, woulda, shouda

That’s the spirit!
Keep the game tight for as long as possible, we don't need to win it early, but mustn't lose it early.

Play possession football and don't make unnecessary mistakes in turnover.

Them and their pathetic fans will start to get frustrated the long it goes on without killing us off.....they're very fickle.

The first goal could help to make us........or may certainly break us.

No basket ball game.....possession, possession, possession and row Z if necessary.

We'll create a chance or two if we're still in the game late on.....and we must take them !!

I asked GPT to make a prediction, absolutely no prompting from me, honestly...

Miracle in Madrid: Haaland Hat-Trick Fires City Past Real in UCL Thriller

Real Madrid 2-4 Manchester City (Agg: 5-6)

Manchester City produced a stunning performance at the Santiago Bernabéu to overturn a first-leg deficit and eliminate Real Madrid from the Champions League in dramatic fashion. Erling Haaland’s sensational hat-trick led the charge as City sealed a 6-5 aggregate victory, with the defending European champions left to rue missed chances and uncharacteristically poor finishing.

First Half: A Fast Start, But Missed Chances for Madrid

Real Madrid, carrying a 3-2 lead from the first leg, began on the front foot, pressing high and forcing City into early mistakes. Vinícius Jr. and Rodrygo caused problems down the flanks, but Madrid’s profligacy in front of goal set the tone for the night.

City, composed and clinical, made Madrid pay for their wastefulness when Haaland opened the scoring in the 27th minute, finishing off a well-worked counterattack. The Bernabéu fell silent as the Norwegian’s lethal strike put City ahead on away goals.

Madrid responded through Jude Bellingham, who leveled the match with a well-taken finish just before halftime. However, the hosts failed to capitalize on further chances, and City went into the break knowing they were well in the tie.

Second Half: City’s Ruthlessness, Madrid’s Collapse

The second half belonged to Manchester City. Haaland converted a penalty in the 55th minute after a reckless challenge from Antonio Rüdiger. Just ten minutes later, City were awarded another spot-kick following a handball, and Haaland coolly slotted home for his hat-trick, making it 3-1 on the night and tilting the aggregate score in City’s favor.

Madrid, stunned and desperate, threw everything forward, but their usual cutting edge deserted them. Vinícius and Rodrygo squandered golden opportunities, while City’s defense—led by the superb Rúben Dias—stood firm.

Phil Foden then put the tie beyond doubt in the 82nd minute, curling a beautiful strike past Thibaut Courtois to make it 4-1. A late Madrid goal from Luka Modrić gave the hosts a glimmer of hope, but it was too little, too late.

Final Whistle: A Night for the Ages

As the final whistle blew, the Bernabéu fell into stunned silence. The reigning champions had been eliminated in their own fortress by a ruthless City side, who executed their game plan to perfection. Haaland’s hat-trick, City’s resilience at the back, and Madrid’s costly missed chances told the story of a thrilling night in the Spanish capital.

Pep Guardiola’s side now march into the Round of 16, their dream of a second consecutive Champions League title still alive. For Madrid, it was a night of what-ifs—a rare European failure in front of their own fans.

Final Score: Real Madrid 2-4 Manchester City (Agg: 5-6)

Must be a rogue version of GPT that doesn't know there's no away goals, if there was 2-3 beats 0-1, City did not win last year, and that City would never get one penalty at Bernebeu let alone 2.

The obvious starters are

Eddie
xxxxx Stones Dias Gvardiol
Nico Bernardo
xxxxxxx
Savinho Haaland Marmouch

Nuñes has been an unused sub the last 3 games so assume Pep's gone off him.
Nunes came on as a 87th minute substitute against Newcastle.

Please pay attention!
