New CL Format Thoughts

I thought it would be a good watch, seeing all 18 games being covered on one channel simultaneously. Watching the table constantly changing. Even though I’d obviously know if City were through or not, thought it would still be quite interesting after the event.

But TNT in their wisdom, despite having countless channels available, decided to have that show behind the red button only, so it was unrecordable.
TNT show is so poor. Much preferred James Richardson (BT?).
In fact he is better than any current football show host

So tonight Atalanta who finished 9th in the league phase were knocked out by the team who scrapped through in 24th.
Football eh .
That's drama though! It's brilliant.

Brugge were comfortably the better team over 2 legs.

Celtic also gave Bayern a scare (which no-one would have predicted).

I've found the new format much more entertaining up to now.

The new format has worked well, giving more clubs a shot at the last16. My only gripe is the extra matches entailed.
PS I’ll change my mind if we go out tonight, but as we recover, players come back, new players arrive, maybe no bad thing in the long run.

eh? why do we even (have to) play the group stages if we just want that? why not either let everyone go through? or just skip the group stages altogether?

to me it's absolutely ridiculous. loads of games just to milk the fans out of money and as a end result you can be ducking shite and still go through - like us.

ffs out of 8 games we beat bratislava (2nd worst of all), prague (31st) and brugge (24th) and went through. with that record you should be nowhere near the playoff stages.

There’s nothing wrong with Bratislava, great place to visit :0)

Under the old format, two teams could go straight into the last 16 from a "poor" group. For example, Apoel & Zenit both qualified from the same group with 2 wins (9 points in total). In that same season City went out after the group stage with 3 wins (10 points).

Now, there is added interest/peril if a team doesn't make the top 8 in the league phase.

Also, the extra games issue is somewhat diminished by not offering the Europa League safety net.

Shocking format, get rid

Revert back to sticking us in a group with 2 shite teams and one half decent one again please

We were never going to win the CL this season.

But we totally fucked up in the 1st round of matches, just scraping into the play offs, and drawing Real Madrid.

Think it's been wank from the offset, devalued the whole thing.

We've been knocked off comprehensively before but this is the first year I haven't really give a fuck.

The 22nd best team doesn’t deserve another shot at it in a Gutter Round.

We’re deservedly out but we deserved to go out at the end of the League Phase.

More games provide more money for the idiots in suits who run each club, but it’s not good for the players who are just dropping like flies and it’s not good for the fans who have to fork out a fortune.

That away end was ⅓ empty tonight, when we usually take the full allocation to Madrid. That, after an unprecedented lack of City fans at the home leg last week when we were given short notice to find £52.50 for it.

Prices were very poor from City. Two games before the Ro16 even started (Inter and Madrid) priced at quarter final and semifinal prices from previous years, and all the other games (more then ever before) were more expensive than previous years’ Group Stage games.

At least just have the Top16 go through after the League Phase and ditch the dross. No need for a random round of games like we’ve just had. It’s just a rip off for fans and too many games for players.

Thought our random 8 fixtures were like we had come out of pot EIGHT. Scouse cunts, Villa, Arse and Celtic all got easier ties than us. That said we haven't really helped ourselves much over the last twelve months plus?

It’s the luck of the draw too though.

Brugge finished below us and got Atalanta.

6 of the 8 teams we played finished between 19th and 35th. I doubt anyone bar Celtic had it easier than we did.

7 of our 8 finished between 15th and 35th.

Inter finished 4th and were the only team we played who finished in the Top14.
