Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

On a bad night for us this is a stark reminder if one was needed what horrible cunts the rags are. Also stupid. Their worst team and season since 1974, in a Mickey mouse European competition just and still having the audacity to spit bile at us.

Poor but expected. Went into it with no hope or expectation so not surprised or that bothered to be honest.

They're miles better than us or anyone in England for that matter, they could win it again.

Transition season, the team is old, lacking energy and needs weeding. Nothing we don't already know.

Get top 4 secured and shithouse an FA Cup.
This.

I’ve always found it hard to be that mithered either way by the CL. I was delighted when we won it, but never been that bothered about being knocked out. Especially with this fucking stupid format they have now. Rather win the league any day.

Too many players have lost that extra 1% to be the best.

The humble players don’t want to run the hard yards chasing players down or getting back to help defence.

The rot is here and now.

Time we all put past success behind us now. Pep and the players need a reboot and the squad needs to rediscover its hunger and drive.

It will be very hard saying goodbye to a few really special players but now is the time. The summer exodus needs to be allowed to happen without sentiment.

7/8 players should move on:
Ederson/oretga
Kdb
Stones/ake
Kova
Walker
Doku
Grealish
Nunes
Gundo

Most of the above must go. I have not added Bernie as I think with proper young, hungry players around him again he will go up a level. He is running his bollox off now for a team that don’t have it in them.

This season could end up being a blessing in disguise.
Can’t rest on past successes, only as good as your last game…..and we were shit

A lot of fans feel the same way but the club, management & players probably look at CL differently……try attracting the best players in Europe without CL when you’re looking at a rebuild

Obviously, he's not suddenly turned into a crap manager, but it's a valid question as to whether he really has the appetite to start again?
If he's only looking at another 2 years, is he personally even going to reap any benefits from all the effort?
This feels like a watershed season, not just a transitional blip.
It looks as though - when next season comes around - the 'core' players will be outnumbered by newbies. Not ideal and makes it difficult to carry forward any legacy from the whirlwind we've lived through these past years.
Probably the toughest job in his career to date.
Agreed. I wouldn't be surprised if has a rethink in the summer. He's dealt with alot this season. Personally he must've been distraught from his divorce. As for coaching, he hasn't been able to find a solution for Rodri's absence or get the best out of his players. Plus he's dealing with injuries. players with ongoing personal problems, his mate Tziki leaving, not to mention the uncertaincy surrounding the future of City as a premier league club.
So the questions are: does he have the desire to go again ? Is two years enough for him to see through a huge rebuild of this team.
I'm sure this CWC is the last thing he needs. He probably feels like us all, he just cant wait to see the back of this season.

February was always going to be a tough month and we still have the dippers and spuds to play :-(

The fall has been a reminder that you cannot stay static both in personnel and all things to do with the Club and expect to reproduce the past.

Too many players have stayed at the club for too long and combined with a very poor run of injuries we see the result and Pep and the club realize this and now the rebuild begins.

Mistakes have been made and we will learn form them and come back stronger than ever , it will take time but it will take place because we have done it before and we will do it again.

Pep has had a poor season by his lofty standards , he got every last drop from the playing group over 8 seasons and they have given all they could but the carnival is over let the next carnival begin.

I no longer do X as it’s a cesspit but prefer we don’t give the horrible cunts any oxygen they need.

It's one bad season in nine - extraordinary. At this stage of the season, every side is exactly where they deserve to be - no ifs, no buts, no cuddas, no shuddas, no maybes, no false positions. We're fourth in the Prem - a good base to kick on from. We also have the greatest striker on the planet - 49 Champions League goals in 48 games. What's Mbappe's record - colossal player though he is - 54 Champions League goals in 85 games.
We're having such a bad season that it might affect 25/26 thats my worry.
This is different then 19/20 or 16/17, some of the players will not recover mentally from this season, are we going to sell half the squad?

People keep saying KDB, Gundo, Bernardo have lost thier legs or Stones, Ake are injury prone and should be sold, then we have Nunes, Ederson, Kovacic who'll probably go this summer.

So are we giving Pep a new squad?

Didn't expect us to win last night, we've been a shambles in the CL this season.
But I did expect more effort, I've no idea what system Pep set out with and I don't think the players did either, we went from playing our best half of the season against the Geordies, to that.
We were clueless with no bite or desire, Madrid totally outplayed us, the speed throughout their team was miles ahead of us.
Never mind, it's the hope that kills you.

If you can’t match the physicality of the opposition you are on a hiding to nothing, virtually every time we have sacrificed legs for experience we have been second best this season, we still probably would have been good enough but that selection last night to my mind gave us no chance, and it was ultimately decided upon because Nico played sell well Saturday and Gundo wasn’t exposed, last night the midfield was non existent, and we couldn’t go front to back because of no Haaland. Madrid are excellent in moments, it I have seen them a few times this season, they give up chance after chance, we created nothing until they declared. Strange how we won a foul at the end, committed in the box, and we got a free kick, wouldn’t have made a difference, but very strange

Man city has dominated England and Europe for awhile, tough losss happen, but we take it on the chin, regroup, and come back stronger.

The greatest striker on the planet scored a hattrick last night
