It’s got to be tough, because Pep needs to trust his players…and he’s got almost a decade of trust built up with Eddie and Kyle and him were obviously very close.

However, these guys are human.
It’s a profession to them.
Eddie had an opportunity to reportedly make 600 per week. He wouldn’t be human if he didn’t think about that many times this past few months. That’s insane money.
We should have just took the transfer fee and got a new young hungry keeper with plenty to prove.

It sadly looks like a big mistake, unless we can hopefully find someone this summer transfer window.
He should have taken it. And we should have let him. I mean, him staying hasn't done shit for us winning anything now.

We are losing with him,. Im sure we can lose without him :(

The issue is who would you bring in as a replacement at short notice. As we have seen Ortega, he was good cover but not good enough for the longer term. This time we have had a season to source find our main target. We did it with Bravo and Ederson.

With Eddie's situation it happend towards the end of Summer's transfer window. Little time to bring in a suitable replacement. Up until Feyernoord he was one of our better performers so not lacking in motivation before that game.
I’m not sure I’d agree with that.
Reports started in early July.

That would have been plenty of time to help him on his way, and 4+ weeks to get someone new in the door.

Yes, but this year is a doen year anyway. Maybe we wait or get somone old and reliable for 1 year.

Still not enough time to find a suitable choice for an important position. Eddie mostly has been one of our better peformers despite wanting to move.

Last summer was too short notice and a veteran isn't something we shouldn't have been targeting even at that time. We did handle that situation the best we could have done.

No, dias made it easy for Mbappe not Ederson. He read the game, he was in his customary position prepared to sweep, the ball came in, hes instantly backtracked knowing it isn't a ball to come for, dias makes a mess of it and leaves ederson up shit creek. What is Ederson supposed to do differently?

Do I believe he should be stood there? Yes, 100% because that's what's he's instructed to do as the sweeper keeper and that's the system that has helped us win what we've won.

All I'm seeing here is you disagreeing with Peps decision to play sweeper keeper, something he's done through the entirety of his career and suggesting Ederson should be directly disobeying those fundamental principles.

Seeing as youre insistent Ederson is to blame here, i'll ask you this, where do you think he should have been instead? And what did he do wrong in your eyes?
I've already given you the answers to the questions you are asking. You dont think he made a mistake, I think he did. The conversation has run it's course.

When you read people criticising his positioning for the first goal, you just know they don’t know the first thing about goalkeeping.

He hardly had time to do anything as he was expecting Dias to head it and he can’t teleport.
Some silly comments either on here or match forum about him costing us four goals. No idea where they get that from. He wasn’t to blame for any of the goals last night he didn’t have a chance. Mbappe was too good for him and the rest of our defence, mind you half hearted swing a leg doesn’t help, but Ederson wasn’t to blame last night.

I don't need to watch it again, he made it easy for Mbappe. The pros themselves said it, it's also not about being where he usually should be or teleportation as you put it, it's about reading the game & adjusting to scenarios, as soon as that ball was sent forward everybody knew it was dropping in behind Dias & everybody knew Ederson was getting lobbed.

Forget Dias for a second, mistake or not do you honestly believe Ederson should be stood in that position with Mbappe chasing those kind of balls? You do not stand that far off your line with an over the top ball incase it bounces, it's basic goalkeeping!
It was a similar type of scenario to Marmoush’s first goal on Saturday, when he lobbed the ball over the Newcastle goalkeeper. No one criticised the Newcastle goalkeeper then, so why criticise Ederson now. It was down to a ridiculously high line being played by City, against a side who, other than Khusenov, were much speedier on the break, Dias missing the header and stumbling and Ederson doing what he always does and defends his goal very forward.

Shite again, first goal his positioning can be argued. Second goal not his fault. Third goal he was poor for me. A shot from outside the area, not in the corner could and should have been tipped away. A top keeper saves it.

I don't see it often from other keepers, but what is this new thing where he refuses to catch a ball anymore? Are his reactions that shit or is that a new tactic. He cost us first leg just letting a ball twat off his chest instead of even attempting to use his hands, then last night he done the same with a tame shot from outside the area. That could have fell anywhere, like it did the first leg.

I have been done with Ederson for a while, having a face like a slapped arse all season but then on full time smiling with one of their players. Fuck off mate. Lumping a ball up for a goal is all well and great, now time for a keeper who fancies saving shots at his goal

Why would we criticise the Newcastle goalkeeper? Maybe the Newcastle fans did criticise him? One of the commentators did when I watched it back at home. The high line was ridiculous & so was the sweeper keeper idea for this match but goalkeepers still have to make judgements, I'm pretty sure if the goalkeeper has absolutely no chance of getting anywhere near the ball Pep wouldn't want him to still come running out, the thing here though is he didn't come running out he just stood in no man's land. He wasn't near his net, he wasn't near Mbappe nor did he have any chance of sweeping that ball up if Dias missed it. Dias, Ederson & Stones between them messed up.

He’s a goalkeeper, not a miracle worker/mind reader!

Dias should never blob that clearance for the first. And to say he should have saved the third? L-O-L

So you would consider somebody to be a miracle worker/mind reader for maybe thinking Mbappe might get the better of Dias during an over the top long ball? For me that would just be common sense.

The goal was 100% on Dias, absolutely pathetic defending, done like a kipper.

This no arms thing is just weird - doubled down on his kick mistake last week to concede from one

I disagree. Last season Dias would have been favourite to have dealt with that ball every team. And probably with a decent header back to the keeper.

Ed was in no mans land.
You come, you claim.
You don't come, you start to cover the angles.
You make the choice early, and stick to it.

It is a weekness in his game, as is his penalty stopping.

Only my opinion. Please don't shout at me.
I am sad anyway, and I may cry.
