The Squad planning thread

Can see one of Eddie/Ortega going & Carson might retire.

Kovacic, Bernado, Gundo and Grealish all potentially going. Nunes is done. Really not sure with McAtee.

KDB contract situation.

So we might need a new GK, maybe a 3rd choice and a new midfield.

So that means a keeper, 2(maybe even 3) midfielders, a Left Back, a Right Back and maybe a winger.

Sounds like we want Cambiaso AND Frimpong? I’m hoping Gvardiol will continue to play LB, £50m for Cambiaso sounds a bit much if he’s more of a squad player. Has struggled a bit with ankle injuries this season too

Cambiaso can play either side I think. If Ake were to join the list, it would be all Josko. Surprised that there’s no sign of City being interested in Robinson from Fulham.

Carsons been retired for about 5 seasons now , he puts the training cones out and tells a few jokes for 30k a week .

Honestly I don't mind Gundo staying. I can't imagine he's been promised game time so let him hang around. He's the captain of our treble winning team and that must mean something in the dressing room. I agree on cleaning up around Nunes and Kovacic.
It's got to be quite difficult as you'd imagine we want to keep strong personalities in the dressing room that are fully vetted with Pep's ideologies. Enter Kimmich I guess?
And when did Kimmich last play under Pep? How long ago?

Stones body gone
Nath I'd keep great attitude however body breaks down
Dias either he goes or Pep's high line, again always injured
Kev gone bet Madrid wont pick him up
Gundo gone bet Madrid wont pick him up
Walker has gone
Silva just not the level we need anymore again where will he go
Doku headless chicken and always injured
Nunes bad buy
Phillips bad buy
Perrone already said he wants away
Kova sold by Madrid in his mid 20's
Jack surely will move on if someone pays his wage
Keepers need 2 by the look of things

Yes I've given my head a wobble and added Phil to it for the right price
Now that's what damage a wobble can cause. For any youngsters reading, don't wobble that head.

I don’t care how fragile he is, I’d keep Stones. He understands Pep’s tactics inside out and considering we’ve just bought two young centre backs in Reis and Khusanov - and with Gvardiol still being young - his knowledge and experience would be amazing for them.

I think Gundo, Walker, Kovacic and Bernardo need to go, though. Same with Ederson but only if he wants to leave/we can get a high fee and a good replacement.

Undecided on Kev. Purely based on the arguments above for Stones being applicable to him too - with Savinho, Marmoush and maybe another to come in this Summer in that central attacking role.

We need to rebuild the midfield. We can’t put too much stress on Rodri when he’s back. He and Nico will work perfectly together but another - high-energy - midfielder would be perfect to allow good rotation. Bruno G would be ideal. Ederson at Atalanta. Baleba at Brighton. But I’m sure, like with Nico, there’ll be someone perfect for us somewhere lying around.

Need new faces. Younger players who are eager to perform and have the energy to compete or we’re knackered.

Big (first!) window for Viana but luckily Txiki (and probably Viana) gave us a head start in January with 4 brilliant signings.

Not sure on:

Grealish (who’d pay the wages?)
Ake (I love him but always injured - I’d lean to keeping)
Doku (same as above)
Lewis (there’s a fee there I’m sure and could be too good to refuse)

It still too much change in one window. We still have to replace them and the new players still need the the time to gel and still need to keep some squad depth. A couple more seniors out in the summer and the rest the following season. Pep will have some say on it.

I'd agree with this if i wasn't scared that keeping even half of those guys wouldn't negatively impact next season as well, I think we're in a position where big change is almost the less risk filled option when compared to going again in any capacity with those guys.

It is finding the balance. Too many changes in one window is detrimental too.

not if the ship is fully submerged. i think it was a balance last summer, now its an emergency. you have to act drastically in an emergency. I think we've got a better chance of the title bedding in new players then being hamstrung by old and broken players. The odds arent great in either direction probably!

Still need to keep couple of the older heads around too during the rebuild. The question is who do you keep for next season.
