VAR Discussion Thread | 2024/25

VAR in the Scottish early game played a blinder. No surprise to read the Establishment club benefited at Goodison though.

Yes they will always happen. This is VAR. it's not supposed to happen.

5 refs is it now. All it needs is one of them to have bias and we get confusing decisions, like today, with full video evidence, so many people looking at it.

There was a 3.45 minute delay to Everton 2nd goal whilst they forensically looked for a reason to cancel that goal.

It hasn't improved the game. Just hasn't, nevermind it making it worse.

And even crappier than that is PGMOL will spin today's decision as VAR correcting a refs mistake in their insidious self promoting propaganda statistics..
It’s “progress” mate. Which match-going fan doesn’t want to wait 4 minutes to “celebrate” a goal?

I agree we should get rid of VAR and go back to just the ref and linesman.....

However it wont stop people whinging, just give them less to whinge about

Do we think the game should be foresically analysed for every decision - either way....it takes the enjoyment out of the game and goals especialy.

Id happy go back to just the refs etc even if it does lead to more mistakes.

VAR just contributes to the media circus around the sport.

VAR was supposed to be for clear and obvious errors. It was never supposed to be about forensically analysing every play to find a reason to disallow a goal. Why are officials going back into a move to try and spot minor infirngements which would never be seen by referees or fans with the naked eye. VAR is supposed to be an aid to referees. Matches are being refereed by computers.

It's basically so that they can deny Everton* a late penalty and win over the Premier Leagues owners.**

* insert any team you want
** ask who interviewed Masters for his job

Clear, obvious and completely corrupt. You could almost hear Webb pressing the redshirt buzzer.

Compare and contrast the way the TMO is used in rugby union. They ask for every angle, they discuss the issue with the ref and his / her two liners, the conversation can be heard, the issue has n question is shown to n the big screens, the final decision is announced to the crowd. All very transparent. It’s not hard to do especially when you have officials who know what they are doing. It was a soft pen but a pen all the same. No clear and obvious error to overturn. How will Webb spin this one

Yeah but it’s progress my friend. “It’s what the fans want.”

Compare and contrast football with rugby “kick and clap” union. The latter is about the most stop / start game of you could ever wish to see. Perfect for all that video reffing bollocks.

Football managed perfectly well with all its wrong and unfair calls for 150 years. Some went for you , others against. But when the ball hit the net - no flag - you went fucking bananas- the whole point of going -,unalloyed joy. Not thiscfucking shit.

Glad VAR intervened to send Lewis Skelly off , never a yellow that which is what the ref would have gave.
As usual the ref relies on VAR to decide for him it seems to be the case for these situations Of course being a VAR supporter you claim what a great job it didn’t My belief is with VAR the ref would have made the correct decision

It’s amazing you have such faith that these officials would get everything spot on without VAR.

We had a weekend without VAR recently and there was offside goals, goals given that didn’t cross the line and clear red cards not given.

MOTD limply bemoaning the inexplicable redshirt penalty cancellation - that's it, blatant corruption just shrugged off again.
It’s beyond fiction at this point,..yet still nothing to write about!?Blatent cheating in front of our eyes! It’s actually insulting my intelligence,..and others, yet there will be nothing to see here etc!?What the actual fuck is goin on here?!They call City cheats over something that nobody actually understands, yet this shit goes on and will be forgotten about before sunrise the next day!!?My ghast is getting flabbered beyond any retrieval now!?What the actual fuck is happening here!!?…Jeez..

Put it to the vote. Every season card holder at every premier ground:

VAR or no VAR?

Mullered.

We had a weekend where you could celebrate a goal properly. No wanking around for 4 minutes seeing if the winger’s armpit put him 3mm offside.
