Alvarez was never going to stay so it's pointless wondering what would have been had he stayed.

He was far too good to be back-up to Haaland and not good enough to be a support striker to Haaland in the number 10 or on the wings. It was Edin Dzeko all over again.
He had a bloody contract, of course he could've stayed, and don't give me that bloody "oh he wanted to leave" crap, that's what we've been hearing about Bernie for 4 years and he's still here.

Looks baffled, selfish in the box, Phil was through at least once and he doesn’t pass. Not a good showing today but he wasn’t exactly alone in that. I still think he’s a good addition to the team and am hopeful.

He got offered the first choice striker position at Atletico Madrid, a team that could win La Liga this season and is an outsider for the Champions League. He is also playing for Diego Simeone and is on € 160,000 per week.

He wasn't turning that down over being second choice at City and that's why he left.

Bernie was different, nobody was willing to offer the money we wanted whilst Atletico banged £80m down for Julian.

He still had a contract, we should've kept him for at least another season, oh and also and because we weren't planning on signing a replacement, and he doesn't look like the type of player that would cause unrest in the dressing room.

I agree with that.

I think ultimately Ateltico convinced him and that £80m was too good to turn down for a player who wasn't guaranteed first choice.

Glad someone has had the balls to say it.

Alvarez had the luxury of playing with Haaland most of the time which Marmoush hasn't had for the last two games. Alvarez got a lot of flak for going missing at times. but people have really short memories. I thought Marmoush was one of our better players today and don't think Alvarez would have made much difference today but Haaland would have done.

Not a striker and played out of position. He's a fantastic player and we'll see the very best of him in the coming weeks and next season. Unlucky not to score today but finished it very well, new team, new country, he's doing absolutely fine in my eyes. His performance against Newcastle was there for everybody to see.

Was he the main striker at frankfurt?

He is clearly talented but I just don't see him as being the main man up front

Nope. They played 352 with wingbacks.

He often had freedom to go wide and link with the left wingback.
