Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Just got home, thoroughly drenched and dejected, but not really surprised, as once I saw the team sheet I just couldn't see anything different

Does anyone seriously believe that Haaland's injury is just a niggle?
Am I the only one who wonders how we're ever going to score from a Doku cross if his team mates don't flood the box, particularly a left footed player at the near post?
What the fuck has happened to Foden?

Liverpool deserve to be champions but too many of our big names have fallen off a cliff and it will take time for the new signings (plus next summer's arrivals) to take the club forward
I’d be surprised to see him before next season. He went over on his knee worse than Rodri did. How he was in training the next day I have no idea.

Rico is not a full back and needs to develop a better passing range to progress to a starting midfielder. He is a gutsy fucker though who tries and tries for 90 minutes, hopefully he's learning and learning for 90 minutes. He's only young and will improve.
He never seems to hide, which is a testament to his character as much as anything

We used to out work and out sprint every team. Now we don’t and can’t. Our total lack of physical presence on the pitch is frightening we must be the softest team in the league. Did we give away a proper foul? Those 3 subs at the end are frightening and a sad indictment of where we are at. Pep is the greatest manager of all time in my opinion but I don’t think he knows how to fix this. His refusal to change the system or try youth is now infuriating at best worrying at worst. Where was O’Reilly in today’s squad? How did Grealish not come on if he’s fit? He’s shit probably but why is Mubamba now not on bench when we have no CF and Nunes who is poor suddenly doesn’t get a look in after Pep persevered with him for weeks at RB. No atmosphere again. That game should’ve had needle it had none. We surrendered and flattered to deceive. Lewis is clearly trying but he’s a child playing against adults in physical terms and it shows.

Does Pep understand the gravity of the situation? We still play a suicidally high line. And there's no press
The problem today ( amongst others)was one that's dogged us all season, and that is slipshod defending. It's the basics that aren't being done that's mind-blowing. You just expect a schoolboy error at any moment.

Anyone tell me why we buy a centre forward and then play him behind a midfielder? The idea was Marmoush to step up front when Haaland was out, we were toothless up front and we need some serious surgery to get any better next season.

But also a weak midfield, no end product etc. It's not just slipshod defending sadly

What do they do in training? Surely both the player and the coaches must see this? With all the technology available today they could sit down with each player and discuss their in match thinking.
In training they do rondo. I’m convinced that’s it. The coaching staff would be out of the door immediately if it were down to me.

It’s crazy though isn’t it. He’s been here 18 months and I don’t see that he’s developing at all. He’s got strength, pace and a trick to beat his man, yet he produces the square root of fuck all in 99% of the games he’s played in. He’s not the only one, mind you, but look at savinho. He been here months and didn’t settle, but of late he’s been much more productive and has contributed. I’m happy with that as it shows he is adapting to the league.

Fuck em,
but I'm jealous for their clear organization in defence,
for the philosophy to defend as a full team,
for the aggressive way to play,
for the physicality,
for the set pieces,
for the pace going forward (and back) and smelling blood.

All that has been outcoached of our lads or they never had it since being scouted.

red scousers have what it takes to win big matches and titles, tbh.
Maybe they have not enough upfront, but if we aren't even able to shut down their only threat, well...

We were so helpless, hard watch.

Having not seen Marmoush much before he came to us, did he play more as a centre forward or a wide forward at his last club..... - He aint a number 8 thats for certain...

We played well. They didn’t really do a great deal and were pinned back by us a lot. But just absolutely no creativity in the team at all.

De Bruyne looks like he’s gone and he’s the only naturally creative player we have on the books.

Could be a while before we’re in for the title again if we don’t address that.

Doku was mint until the last thing he had to do. Alexander-Arnold will be waking up with cold sweats tonight thinking about Doku, but there was no end product at all. Not a single chance came from all his amazing work before the final pass/cross/shot.

Nico was decent. Khusanov was brilliant!
Mate they allowed us to pin them back they were playing a 514 most of the time, well organised and not out of second gear, we could still be playing now and not a have a shot.
