Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

It’s puzzling isn’t it. Pure guess but I think that Savinho and Doku at Liverpool would have similar numbers as maybe Diaz and Gakpo. I think our whole system is flawed and needs a complete reset. No one seems to believe in it

I remember Pep himself saying players only believe in a system when it starts to work. At the moment it isn't. The problem is key components for that system are injured. As everything is geared around playing a certain way I guess it would be impossible to change the system right this minute.

Dippers in SS2 going ape shit trying to get an elderly City fan thrown out because he called them victims

Fuck me they are beating us and more than likely have won the league and they spend an eternity harassing police that an old bloke called them victims

Fucking despicable club with despicable fans
Was that at the back of 217?

The Stewards also removed 2 lads in their 20's a bit later too.

Fucking cunts, I hate them

Still people on here say them over Arse, fucking unbelievable.

All the stunts they have pulled over the last few years just because we were better than them.

I can only assume the Blues who want them to win it over Arse are non match going fans and are also immune to their fucking antics.

League over in February, bottom three also nearly already decided. This is possibly the worst most boring Premiership season ever, christ knows how Sky will spin this for the next few months as apart from dippers nobody will care.
And not one pundit has trotted out the “boring when it’s all decided early on” line.

Wonder why?

I hate them. I have been reminded today. There were none near me. I would have steamed in if there were.

The final third of the pitch and available options was contrasting for both teams. They moved the ball quick and we moved it slowly.

The days of constantly probing and finding a way has this season often not worked. Today the wide players did well but had nothing to aim for in the box.

Strange tactic to have Rico marking Van Dijk at corners.
Only cos Silva wasn’t playing

The defeats don’t anger me anymore. It’s just simply the end of a fucking great team the best we’ve ever seen. In the summer we start building the next one.i

It will be impossible to rebuild that team we had, I have accepted that I will be satisfied if we where title challenging both league and cups, to win every year like we are used to will not happen again

Decent enough on the ball. Atrocious off it.

Toothless up front without the big man.

Khusanov and the two wide men can hold their heads high. The rest can get in the bin.

This Rico experiment needs to just fuck off. Watching him move into the middle is the worst tactic Pep has ever come up with and subsequently stuck with. Every one of our attacks, seemingly has to go through him…why? He’s the least progressive and creative player in the PL and we get him involved in everything. Makes no fucking sense whatsoever,

This side needs major surgery. It’s fucking painful to watch this,
100% this. Lewis is like the opposition’s best defender when we get into the final third. Absolutely fucking clueless.

Very much so.

Sit a bit deeper and become harder to beat. Cuts out the relentless opportunity for teams to counter attack us. Take the handbrake off and let them have a go at pace with grass in front of them.

Here's my thoughts of the game!

Dominated possession struggled to score Liverpool to there chances on the break!

Here is AI who have better assessment of the game! [emoji6][emoji854]

Today, February 23, 2025, Manchester City faced off against Liverpool in a highly anticipated Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium, with Liverpool emerging victorious with a 2-0 scoreline. Based on available reports and commentary, here’s an assessment of the match.

Liverpool showcased a masterclass in clinical finishing and defensive resilience, securing a statement win that extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 11 points. Mohamed Salah proved once again why he’s considered one of the world’s elite players, scoring the opener in the 14th minute with a powerful shot that deflected off Nathan Ake, leaving City’s goalkeeper Ederson helpless. Salah’s influence didn’t stop there—he later provided a pinpoint assist for Dominik Szoboszlai, who doubled Liverpool’s lead in the 37th minute with a simple finish after being left unmarked in the box. This goal exposed City’s defensive frailties, a recurring theme in their performance today.

Manchester City, despite dominating possession with 66% of the ball, struggled to convert their control into meaningful chances. The absence of Erling Haaland, sidelined by a knee injury, was keenly felt, as City lacked a focal point in attack. Omar Marmoush thought he had pulled one back with a stunning strike, only for it to be ruled out for offside, summing up City’s frustrating day. Their play was described as passive and lacking intensity, with Pep Guardiola’s side unable to break down Liverpool’s deep defensive block. Jeremy Doku posed a threat to Trent Alexander-Arnold on the flank, but without consistent support, City’s attacks fizzled out, leaving their possession largely sterile.

Defensively, Liverpool were superbly organized under Arne Slot’s guidance. Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate stood tall, snuffing out City’s advances and winning key aerial duels, while Alisson Becker’s calm presence in goal ensured any rare breakthroughs were dealt with confidently. The Reds’ counterattacking approach paid dividends, and though they only had 34% possession—the lowest they’ve recorded in a win this season—they made it count where it mattered most.

For City, this loss further highlights their struggles this season, dropping them to fourth place with 44 points after 27 matches. The reigning champions’ hopes of a fifth consecutive title are fading, and this performance underscored the need for a rebuild. Guardiola appeared at a loss, with fans and observers noting a lack of spark and creativity compared to their dominant years.

Liverpool’s fans, meanwhile, reveled in the victory, chanting “We’re going to win the league” as the final whistle blew, with many City supporters already heading for the exits. This result not only completed a rare league double over City but also cemented Liverpool’s status as title favorites with just 11 games remaining. Salah’s brilliance—he’s now scored and assisted in 11 matches this season—combined with a rock-solid defense, suggests they’re well-equipped to see out the campaign.

In summary, Liverpool’s efficiency and tactical discipline outshone a lackluster Manchester City, whose possession-heavy approach failed to yield results. This match could prove a defining moment in the 2024-25 Premier League season, with Liverpool firmly in the driver’s seat and City left searching for answers.

Not sure about that, the dippers are way better than the rest this season but they are not a young team and their key players are over 30. They have peaked and they won't spend big going forward, the rest are actually getting worse, so give Pep a chance a season like this was always going to happen and the rebuild is already well under way.

A performance lacking teeth in the final third and our weak collective defending allowed their goals.
Very impressed with Khusanov - his pace and reading of the game one of the main reasons we nullified their breakaways.

I'm struggling to pick the bones out of that game today probably because I'm pissed, a few points we 100% need a right back, kev the king is ( I don't want to say it ) we look completely lost without Haaland doku murdered trent but never looked like getting any goal attempts, I do fuckin hate scoucers, the end of an era is clear for us all to see I look forward to witnessing the new one in.
See you all wed night

It was on target, so it's Salahs goal.
I agree, It wasn’t Ake’s fault, how many times has he cleared off the line or prevented potential goals against? He could do nothing at short range to prevent the goal, I don’t get why gaz76 even felt the need to post that shit post

Does anyone know why their pass back to Alisson was just waved on by the ref? Am I missing something technical which means him kicking the ball towards his own keeper, who then picked it up, isn't a pass back.

I'm not saying it had any bearing on the game but, as a football coach myself, I can't see how it's anything other than a pass back.

We're entering encharted territory where teams don't even fear us again, the Etihad fortress, the air of invincibility, the spirit of the team is slowly being stripped away, this is why the rhetoric of 'next season we'll be better', 'we'll have a summer overhaul' is dangerous, we are doing serious damage to our 'Aura' 'Atmosphere' 'brand' whatever you want to call it.

Call me arrogant or plastic, but this season is not acceptable, dropping a few levels is understandable especially when you take into account injuries, mental fatigue etc, but falling off a cliff? Something is amiss.

Said it before, I'll say it again, team is not playing for him anymore.
