Away fans / tourists in home sections

Everyone knows you don't go in the home end and celebrate a goal. If you do you and get a kicking don't complain.

I didn't complain when I got a kicking. I knew I had to behave especially as i was standing in the Stretford End Paddock.

But fuck me, when Dennis back heels the bastards into Division 2 you have to celebrate.

It was worth it.

I got twated in the main stand paddock at United.

It was worth, as I and other other City fans were escorted along the side of the pitch by the police to the scoreboard paddock away end, whilst the game was being played. I fucked loved it. And what a reception we got from the City away end :-)

Here’s my story of today. All facts, you can make your own minds up about causes/conclusion.
For context I’m 64, first City game 1970, first season ticket 1973/64. Our family has 4 SCs in 102 since we moved.
Went to Coop live cos it’s a convenient place for a drink before the game. Usually go Bulls Head in Picadilly. For me a positive development, but not to everyone’s taste.
Going in via Entrance B at around 15.15 there was a group of around 50 middle aged Chinese tourists being shepherded into the ground by Mandarin speaking guides. These were not the regular Manchester based Chinese students we see at every game and who by and large are pretty enthusiastic blues. And before anyone starts accusing me of be of being racist or anti-Chinese I lived in Shanghai for 7 years and have a great empathy with the Chinese people.
Went in the ground earlyish to meet visiting friends from Colombia and the US. They are football tourists, not away fans (they are also great people and one of them is a very good footballer). They are also very conscious of football etiquette and wouldn’t dream of celebrating an away team goal (fatal mistake in Colombia!) and were full on City fans for the day. They’ve done nothing wrong imo.
They also went to Leicester vs Brentford and Everton vs scum on their trip.
All tickets (2 together) were bought on Stub Hub. They cost:
Leicester vs Brentford £80 pp
Everton vs Scum. £150pp
City vs dippers. £500pp !!!!!

Where I sit in 102 there were bizarrely fewer regulars than normal. Lots of neutral tourists and a very puny youth who was obviously a dipper but too pathetic to confront. Then suddenly the full weight of GMP appeared to eject a few people who tbh hadn’t really been outed or caused trouble.
The purpose of this long post, if there is one, is simply to reflect my depression on what the matchday experience has become. It’s a load of hassle to actually get to the Etihad, and I’m increasingly wondering if it’s worth it.
On a positive note, I didn’t think we played too bad and Khusanov is a star of the future.

Obviously not, unless it's sneaked in. ;-)

There is not a chance in hell City would allow that banner into the Etihad.
Thank goodness you understand me @jrb and didn’t take offence. I apologise for my curt sounding message. It’s been a long day and I’m freezing and exhausted. I should really go to bed and not get involved on here. :-) ;-)

Group of Egyptians in East Level 1 there to support both Marmoush and Salad. Got a bit of hassle for celebrating Salad's goal.
Think that’s the crux of it. It makes more sense that it’s people from overseas/tourists.

You would hope those travelling would have an understanding of the implications of sitting in the wrong section but if the club and league don’t see it then there’s not much to be done.

Should also add I don’t think it’s just a City issue. The Premier Leagues global appeal has been extensive and it’ll be happening at every ground.

I have taken liberty there a few times when I was young and they never took me on BUT I would have deserved it. Thus I haven't been in a home section since the mid 90s!
I went into the Stretford end paddock because I knew (cough) it would be safer that our away end. It wasn't a proper kicking either soft bastards as I stayed there until the end.

No probs mate.

I did understand you. :-)

I think we're all tired and fucked off after today.

It's been a long and arduous season on the terraces and on the pitch.

Get warm and get a rest.

I'm off for another beer.

I'm in 102 and wondered what all that was about. Loads of police and stewards blocking the aisle for a good few minutes and then just all left. Bizarre

I don't blame the loan girl but why did it take 40 mins to summon enough stewards ?
I think there is a limit to what the stewards in orange can do. It seems that to evict someone you need a steward in yellow - and there are not that many of them around (once for City, again - bring in more people for this match?).

I asked the steward in orange and he said they didn't have a camera, so they had to wait for the stewards in yellow.

we must have one of worse match day experience of any club if they was allowed they would move us to London and call us London city

It just seem the club hates city fans they rather anyone else there but us it's never been this bad with away fans in home end only think of Celtic couple years ago

That's because we perpetuate the attitudes that caused it to be introduced in the first place.
Do you recognise that the tribalism in football has positives as well as the negatives you’re so keen to highlight?

And out of interest if we did end segregation how would that look? Would you still have designated home and away ends or would grounds be fully mixed, or something in between? One consequence I’d worry about is that you’d end up with far more away fans in the home end, which push up the price of tickets and make attending games even harder for fans who are already being priced out

I didn't make a point.

I posted a picture

But if you want me to make a point, because I know what you are fishing for again, and I'm not going to bite, how did he get that object into the ground and past the security checks, hot on the heels of the hair clippers inside the ground during the Chelsea game? He certainly didn't buy that at the souvenir store.

During my security check I was told to open my thin fleece. In fact, the steward tried to pull my fleece zip down further as I hadn't opened my fleece fully. That's right, stewards are once again taking it upon themselves to open people's clothing fully at the security checks without a person's permission.

Does that answer your question Marvin?

If not, do fuck off!
I don't know why you or the photographer thinks this person is posing a problem.

Was in the Paddock in something like 92/93. I was based at Ripon and came across. Evening game I think. There were loads of City and we all seemed to congregate in the corner. Might have been 1-1 from memory.

Here's a question. I've been to watch other sports - both Rugby codes, Cricket, Baseball and others, where home and away fans mingle quite happily.

Why are we so tribal in football and violent with it? Why can't we accept away fans in home areas and just have a chat and laugh with them as they do in other sports?
That tribalism is exactly why football attendances are infinitely bigger than all those sports put together. Its years and years of rivalries, win losses heartaches jubilation memories. Things like today aren't hooligans acting like they did in the bad days of the past, it's something that has been built in to humans since Adam was a lad, namely take the piss out of me and mine and I will react to support the very same. Half those who reacted in the stands today would happily have a pint and talk football with the same people in the pub.

What i have noticed though is that those who sit in home ends aren't necessarily the die hards who will go anywhere to watch their team, they are new fans in the main who just don't get it.

Apparently the club(before he was employed by the club) ban any City fan reported by the Police for any offence committed. That is not the law of the land in which you are innocent until proven guilty.

I personally know of one case where a supporter was immediately banned from attending City games due to an incident reported at an away game.

The club still took all his cup scheme ticket money and his seasoncard money for this season.

That person never made a court appearance so was never charged with any offence.
He has now been reinstated but has received no apology, explanation of thee Clubs actions or more importantly received no compensation for all the games they took money for!!!
I've been a season ticket holder for over 40 years. Never thrown a punch, never chucked a missile, lit a pyro, not indulged in racist or tragedy chanting (victims has no connection to any tragedy). I'm a noisy cantankerous old bastard granted, and I can ruffle a few feathers simply because I dont suffer fools, but I love my Club.

I am currently banned by the Club for an alleged incident with an over-zealous steward at Brentford in January. I was given a choice by the arresting officer, a trip down to Feltham nick for a few hours, or the incident could be treated as a Section 14 Football Related Incident. By going the Section 14 route I could avoid the trip to Feltham and get on my way. The case would then be dealt with at Court. I chose Section 14, which unbeknown to me at the time, automatically brings GMP & MCFC into play.

By 9am next day I received an email from the Club suspending my SC with immediate effect and told that I could not transfer, exchange or donate my seat. I can continue to pay for my seat but cannot use it, pending the outcome at Court.

The letter from City states "this ban is not an assumption of guilt". Well City, yes it fucking is, and guess what, you can now sell on my seat to any scouse, rag or tarquin who has the money to buy it, whilst still taking my DD payments.

I have no set Court date, no contact from The Met and cannot watch my team home or away.

Meanwhile, the Club take the opportunity to make money out of a longstanding supporters misfortune.

Up the fucking Blues...but fuck you isn't very far down the road.

Tribalism and the fans makes football.

Football was exposed during lockdowns when no fans attended as being a pretty fucking boring sport without the fans. The fans make it what it is.

Lose that in the terraces. And you’ll just have a shot product.

Not my picture.
