Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I thought we did ok without ever threatening in the final third. For all the good work Doku and Savinho did, there wasn't ever a point where I thought we were going to score.

Liverpool did what they needed to do, let us have possession most of the second half as they knew we weren't going to do anything with it .

I got the impression they had several gears in reserve if needed, and if we had managed to get one back then they'd have gone at us again and got a third .

Sad to watch KdB now. All good things come to an end and he really shouldn't be anywhere near a starting spot whilst we've still got 4th place to fight for.
There's no way I agree that Liverpool planned to have us constantly buzzing near their goal while we misplaced passes. What I did notice today was that we were playing longer balls and corners into the box that would have been perfect for Erling - the sort of service he rarely gets when leading the line for some reason.

When I saw the line up I feared the worst and it turned out as expected. We were shite today and barely created any meaningful chances. The subs at the end was Pep throwing the towel in. I never usually ever leave early, but when he put Gundo, Kovatic and Dias on I decided I couldn't be bothered to watch any more if we weren't going to try any more.
Unbelievable

My final straw of consolation!

Only 3 of today's starting XI (Ederson, Ake, De Bruyne) also started in the 2023 CL Final.

That's a hell of a turnaround regardless of whether you're in the glass half full/empty school of thought.

Treat the club World Cup like a pre-season tournament… it should have no more priority than that
Problem is that this tournament is at the end of the season, and then the players have to rest, and they'll need another preseason after their rest to start the season.

Is Duku really that good to play in a topp team? He is good but im like thinking every time he has the ball it always ends the same hit a oppents leg and corner (and we really sucks at corners) or a cross that misses everybody he will be world class if his end ball got better, same with savio really but I think he is a little better to make something with he runs it feels more dangerous when he succeed to get past his defender. Duku butt fu..ed Trent today but still it did not led to anything.
Hopefully if we got younger faster midfielders who could find position, find spaces, run into the box Takes shoots outside the area, like KDB used to do maybe the end product will be better for them two
What good is beating a player 19 times if you hit the first man or pass to an opposing player everytime you cross, his end product is so bad, we're better off selling him this summer.

He's the opposite of Sterling, who at least could run off the ball, score or assist. Should be sold along with Nunes and Kova, pointless player.

that Konate-van Dick duo is so strong for them. with so much ease they stopped danger, cleared all our crosses, blocked most our shots, or made us take them from not good enough positions, headed many balls out, they rarely make mistakes this season. even if Robertson on the left is quite past it, while TAA defensively aint great at all. but the CB duo + Allison and their extreme workrate of their midfield trio is running the show for them while Salah's form at age 33 is brutal. he alone has more G+A i the PL this season than Savinho, Doku, Grealish, Bernardo, KDB and Foden combined. sick... he shits out our most creative players combined output alone. its a disgrace.

Why the lads a unit and looked better then the majority when played. If a new contract is on the cards he’s gonna have to be given a go.
Because Pep never plays him ever.

Konate didn't look strong when he got a slight nudge and went down like he'd been shot. Is he physically feeble? Is he a cheat? He obviously doesn't mind the world seeing him being nudged to the ground by a small guy.

As opposed to who exactly ? Even Savinho disappeared in the second half. Apart from those two, we had nothing going forward. Most of the crowd would have fallen asleep if it wasn't for our wingers today.
Yeah basically we had no threat from anyone, Marmoush at least had a couple of efforts, and one disallowed. Doku got in some great positions, and did diddly squat from there, he is "mr noendproduct" regularly.

The three best players have only just arrived, we clearing them out too ?

Idiot.
I did not say 10 of those that played today. The three new guys look promising. 10 of the squad need clearing out though in my opinion and i am entitled to express it without morons like you calling me an idiot.

Like it or not there are similarities in the games we’ve been losing.
We struggle against teams who combine a low defensive block with pace up front.
Until we have pace at the back this will continue.
Khusanov is definitely going to be part of the answer but we need to sign a few more defenders with real pace especially now we have lost Walker.
Not sure how quick Reis is but we must have more pace than Ake and Dias can provide.
You're right. And, that does give me a lot of worry that Spurs away is our next match.

We're entering encharted territory where teams don't even fear us again, the Etihad fortress, the air of invincibility, the spirit of the team is slowly being stripped away, this is why the rhetoric of 'next season we'll be better', 'we'll have a summer overhaul' is dangerous, we are doing serious damage to our 'Aura' 'Atmosphere' 'brand' whatever you want to call it.

Call me arrogant or plastic, but this season is not acceptable, dropping a few levels is understandable especially when you take into account injuries, mental fatigue etc, but falling off a cliff? Something is amiss.

Said it before, I'll say it again, team is not playing for him anymore.

We were never going to do 5 in a row.
We’ve had loads of injuries
We’ve won a trophy
We’re in the FA cup
We’re in the top 4

How would you define “dropping a few levels”

What was the plan from Pep, I mean when Doku dribbled past two players the movement of his team mates were not helpful

No overlapping full back, or player in middle getting themselves in good position.

If Pep head is not there for whatever reason, the EDS manager or U18 should help Pep until hopefully he becomes better.

If you look at the teamsheet today, other than Ake, KDB, and Ederson, it was actually a very young group out there from the start. So, I actually give credit that I think Pep went with the team that he is largely planning to build around going into next year. Of course, the likes of Rodri, Dias, and Haaland will take their spots back when they are healthy and available. Thought most on here would be happy to see no Gundo or Bernardo in the starting XI.
Just saw that Pep has said pretty much the same on ESPNFC: https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_...verpool-pep-guardiola-sees-bright-future-loss

So we're basically fucked until Haaland returns then ? Ok, understood.
