Atmosphere 2024/25

The Etihad is pathetic, we need to be honest with ourselves, we had penalty decisions that should have gone our way but the timid nature of our stadium allows the ref a free pass, can you imagine those handballs not being given at Anfield at the Kop end. The club have created a silent expensive theme park, where half the crowd fucks off 10 minutes before half time and returns in dribs and drabs into the second half. Our away support is the polar opposite of home games, the last time we had a proper atmosphere was the last couple of years at Maine Road, the North Stand was a proper end, we just don't have that, compounded by the club giving away the noisiest section to the away team in cup games, it's beyond laughable. The creation of the family stand has been a disaster for our reputation with the number of empty seats it has, especially on a midweek night. To my mind every decision the club has made with regard to atmosphere and dynamic at our ground has been wrong. The club should stick the away fans on a corner in a lower tier, they need to offer new season tickets in all of the extension, and also aim to make both top tiers behind the goals singing sections, and make them affordable to genuine blues who want to follow the team for a lifetime.
Agree 100 but absolutely no chance any of that happens

Plymouth were loud, but they were singing the same so as every away support sings every game, and have done for the 20 odd years that I've been going.

Football in a library, wwywyws, same old city.

Zzzzzzz, no imagination. Like most weeks, incredibly tedious.
They ain't wrong about the library though

Just bumped into my Plymouth mate in the hotel said Thats the worse home support all season I tried to make excuses but failed miserably
It’s completely normal. We were playing a team 40 places below us in the league. At no point did I think we were going to get beat, even with the ‘Magic of the FA Cup’ being a danger and being 0-1 down.

That’s like them playing Chesterfield. I doubt if they’d played Chesterfield in a Cup game, that their ground would be rocking.

EDIT-
Just had a look, and they played Cheltenham in the EFL Cup earlier this season. Cheltenham are 37 places below them in the league and there were 12,058 there for the game.

I doubt it was a decent atmosphere for that game.

Their fans were good yesterday. Credit where it’s due. But it was their biggest game for years.

I think that was the first chant they could get going because a lot of their fans didn’t seem to know their own songs. Once the Plymouth fans got going they gave their team great support.
There was some “Left side/Right side” chant that came across VERY loud on the ESPN feed I was watching, and it went on for some time.

Have to admit, even when goaded into a song, the feebleness of “Bluemoon” made it almost worse.

I’m surprised no away fans with a big singing section haven’t give it “Shall we sing a song for you?!” and then belted out Bluemoon louder than us, just to rub it in!

As was said earlier, the away atmosphere is absolutely superb, as heard through the TV, and is a credit to those who create it!

I want to club to recapture some identity, i want to see the youth of Manchester filling the Etihad and making it a proper football ground, not the wishy washy crap that we have, we don't need light shows, we don't need fireworks, we just need affordable season tickets and 7000 seats at each end of the ground given to people who want to make some noise. The family stand is a big white elephant that is oversized and not needed, just offer families seats anywhere in the ground at the same affordable prices, like when the club did when we was struggling and allowed kids to sit anywhere with parents for 95 quid, do the same and make it 175 quid for a kid or some realistic affordable figure, what we have now is complete crap, we all know it, no point pretending otherwise
I go to all the home games and Wembley games. And in my opinion we have got loads of young people coming to see City now. More than I have ever known but the South Stand is not very noisy at the moment. Yesterday there were loads of families and children in EL3. The CL crowd is very local and young. The fans around me would sing I think but they need a prompt.

Plymouth did sing, “Shall we sing a song for you” but then I don’t think they sang one lol

With you 100% mate. I do slightly fear the horse has bolted and those in charge of matchday revenue, or whoever set their targets are too greedy and envious of the money made at United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and want to see the same. They’re determined to turn our ground into a theme park that will enable them to get closer with match day revenue. I pretty much heard Roel de Vries say so at a branch meeting a few years ago, I just didn’t realise how bad it would be.

We need to keep the pressure up though and hope that some reasonable middle ground can be negotiated. Like you say season tickets would be a good start, blocks for 18-25 or 18-30, high numbers in strategically placed areas. Lower match day ticket prices which aren’t going to put off local fans on lower incomes buying. It may seem small but it would make a huge difference - ban half and half scarves from the ground. If they’re going to allow tourists in then don’t make it so easy for them to wear colours of other teams. They see others wearing the same, think “I’m not on my own here”, and next thing they think they can celebrate goals in our end. Whatever online sites the greedy fuckers use should clearly stipulate that you’re getting kicked out if you do anything to identify as an away fan. Put these tickets in the gods away from areas which should be filled with home fans.

There are plenty of options, it’s just if the club are willing to prioritise us over the new fans / tourists with wedges of money (I have my doubts)

I was in the South Stand 1 where the away fans usually are.
Heard the Plymouth fans when they scored and that was it.
It must be an acoustic problem if other parts of the ground could hear them.
I was in CB2, South Stand end and Argyle fans sounded very loud.

Not worth starting a new thread but yesterday I came in on the match-day bus and had about 3/4 an hour to kill. Before checking out the new stand, I stood at the bottom of the bridge and watched loads of fans buy half and half scarves from the traders there. City are missing a trick here. Employ young people to sell City merchandise and pay them a commission. And obviously sell City scarves not half and half scarves.

On a CL night when there are loads of Asian supporters present, they buy them too. This is a merchandising phenomenon and all new fans are prone to buy them but some fans misinterpret this. City could fix this 'problem' if they were more adept and street-wise.

Are you an Asian supremacist or something? You’re always bringing up ‘Asian’ into your posts on these topics.

And I was in EL3. And it sounded very loud too. I used to sit at the back of 216 when I moved from Maine Rd and I never had a clue what was going on in SSL1

When I was at Maine Rd back in the old days. The singers would stand next to the away fans and wouldn't be intimidated by the away fans. The job was to intimidate them and out-sing them but South Stand lower sing then we are winning and we can take the p'ss out of the away end e.g., Chelsea. They are very predictable.

Fans never do sing an opposition song, but it’d be hilarious, and quite the social media coup, if they did and outsung the home team!!
When we beat Everton 5-1 in the last game of 2003-04 season, Rooney’s last game for them, Everton fans didn’t sing a single song all game so we sang ‘Everton Everton Everton’ for them.

Only time I’ve ever seen it happen.

True mate. All credit to the Blues trying to get Bluemoon going around the ground. Me and r kid were up belting it out from 209 but I don’t think many thanks see it as part of their role to lift the atmosphere. I also think better atmosphere dissuades lurking away fans (in the home end) from showing themselves.

I’m sure we used to sing an occasional opposition song back in the day. One of my fondest memories as a Blue was the away leg of the youth cup final with Whitey and Lakey etc when we sang the most dreadful version of, “We’re gonna win the League” to the deluded rags. The PC world wouldn’t allot it these days!

No I am Asian and trying to understand where all the tourist comments come from on a CL night when its the exact opposite of what I experience. If you had my upbringing, you'd understand it. Perhaps think a little.

Post a poll asking if City have a problem with tourists at home CL ties Marvin. I’m pretty sure that will confirm you’re in the minority with this one.

Started the match at the front of 115 roughly row H. Plymouth fans were loud. Row of "blues" in front were suspiciously quiet. Could see one of them tensing up when i did my usual gobshite impression of getting the songs going.

Moved to the back second half. Much easier to get chants started and plenty were joining in. Couldn't hear the Plymouth fans at all from this area so definitely an acoustic issue.

After the match walking down towards town is like a funeral procession. Genuinely can't tell if we won or not

Nobody’s talking about tourists and CL nights.

I got relocated from SSL3 to the bottom tier of the south stand and the acoustics are awful also doesn't help I was stood next to this guy who wasn't even interested in the game and was more interested in trying to wind up the Plymouth fans in the top tiers. Utterly bizarre he spent most of the game with his back turned towards to the pitch.

Will ask city if I can relocate to a better seat if we get a home QF draw
