President Trump

Classic fascist tactics.

Create chaos, from which order, their order, eventually emerges.

Most people, faced with chaos, are glad to have 'order' restored on almost any terms. It's the old argument of Thomas Hobbes that even a tyrannical government is better than no government.
What did Hobbes know? Anyway, if Trump wants to gut the federal agencies, he's doing the "no government" bit himself.

One thing I find shortsighted* about the obsession of Trump et al with hobbling and/or leaving NATO, as well as weakening the UN and completely abolishing international law, is that the coming multi-polar world is precisely the kind of place where you want institutions and rules that stabilise international relations. When America actually was the sole superpower in the 90s and 00s it would have been easier to get away with this shit. (*Obviously, his shortsightedness is not the only problem with Trump.)

how does that work when you live on the 9th floor? And when milk goes up do you buy a cow?

This is redolent of the Chinese cultural revolution, when the peasants were encouraged to smelt their own iron to increase production.

Mao had a decent line in brainwashing and personality cult too.

Have to wonder what the clowns that voted for him think about them electing somebody who has turned them into Russia's puppet. I imagine that's the worst possible scenario for the most hardcore trump backers, so what do they do now? I'd guess they simply burry their heads in the sand and pretend it isn't happening until they can come up with a wild conspriacy theory to hide behind.

I'm not so sure it works that way, we've danced to America's tune since the end of the 2nd World War, but I don't remember it ever being a topic of discussion growing up in Salford.

I suspect Trump voters don't give a shiny shit, they voted for for Trump coz he's the "anti establishment" candidate, the guy who gives the finger to the college educated, wokester libs. If he annoys the libs then he's doing something right.

A bit like how I hate the Tory Brexiteers, though on a much less visceral level, stuff that pisses them off, is, in the round, kinda okay with me.

The threat facing Trump is not bending over for Putin, but the ever increasing cost of groceries.

The stuff Trump is demolishing was painstakingly constructed after two disastrous world wars in the first half of the last century, these multilateral institutions were built for a reason. We're not returning to the days of the cold war with China the new enemy, we're in danger of returning to pre 1914.

Yep. Painful lessons about what running the world on raw power, isolationism and naked self-interest have been forgotten. People take peace and a liberal world order between allies for granted.

Trump pisses on these multilateral organisations and treaty obligations and tells his base it's all about making America great again.

Why?

Because obligations are for the weak.

I keep banging on about this but it's the return of might makes right.

Might makes right asserts that those who hold power are the origin of morality. I am stronger than you, therefore, I make all the rules.

And when bird flu gets into your chicken coop and you have to slaughter the lot.
Nah, I heard somewhere that the virus can be knocked out in a minute by disinfectant so just a simple injection of bleach ought to clear it all up and then you're good to go again.

But I might be getting my viruses a bit mixed up, who knows, got to be worth a try I suppose :)

I'm not sure they need to, do they?
Canada provide a lot of the oil that makes US car fuel; Trump's just made that oil more expensive, so car fuel will go up.
Canada will still get their money, won't they?
If thats the case then the Canadians should raise the export tax on that oil further. Take the fight to the dickhead yanks.
