I once met an American delegate in the north of China and he said that in reality, where we were was "not a bad place to be".

Consider also the relative crime rates. It is extremely unlikely that you will fall victim to violent crime in China - whereas in the U.S......

China insists that its' government is allowed to do its' job without being questioned all the time. There is no argument against this and so everybody knows where they stand.

China is a land where common sense rules and not the rantings of idiots.

This is almost the exact same justification for autocracy that Trump and MAGA make.

All hail to the one true leader [insert Xi, Putin, Trump], the only one who can identify common sense. All other opinions are the rantings of idiots.

Ask the Chinese who disagree with the "common sense" what they think of it. Except you can't, of course.

I have no intention of derailing the thread. I was not the first person to mention China and only replying to a previous post.
I know little about the Uyghur people or region, never having been there, so I can't comment on the situation in that part of the world.
I am anti Trump but even he can't be wrong about everything can he?!

He didn't accept an election result when he had little control. There is no way he will let a little thing like law/democracy/votes to get in his way in the future. He stated "Vote for me, and you will never need to vote again".
He is releasing and gathering like minded people, in the knowledge that he's going to need more than political support in the future.

It is like watching a car crash in slow motion. You know what is going to happen next, but nobody seems willing to stop it.

You should not try to anticipate or influence my reply.
Sometimes the majority of the people are misguided and need to be corrected, whether it be brexit, nazism or even the 115/30 charges.
IF Trumps' strategy results in a lasting peace then I will say well done.
Unfortunately I think he has got this one very wrong.

I think/hope the hamburgers do it, failing that I can see someone taking out a congressman etc, someone who has lost everything, possibly even Musk, I would think Trump is to well protected these days. Then those people may turn on him for those decisions, those in power should be more afraid of their of their voters than the ones above, just look at those town halls, if the markets crash people lose jobs, houses etc someone with a gun is going to lose it big time.

I don't see him having a nibble, it means moving troops away from Ukraine.
More likely, to me, is he gets his lackeys to stir up ethnic Russians in places like Estonia.
All the while using the Internet for disinformation and interference in elections.
If it then kicks off in Estonia he then moves in to protect the ethnic Russians.
I am not sure Nato would act now never mind when the Orange Gibbon withdraws from it.
 
He will simply give the money raised in tariffs and paid for by the people back to them in tax cuts and claim to have reduced taxes. Magic ! Unfortuantely the greatest tax cuts will go to the very rich , Elon & Co, whilst the real burden of the tariffs will borne by the everyday american. Tax cuts for the rich - inflation for the poor !

Zero respect or interest in the rule of law, he really is in opposition to everything we claim to stand for. Europe probably has no option but to try and play nicely in the sandpit in the short term to buy some time and avoid leaving itself too exposed but any European leader (exc. the likes of Orban) who is focused on 'repairing' the relationship rather than trying to work out how we both decouple and stop him/them needs their head testing.
