Nottingham Forest (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I’ll buy the injuries, age, complacency excuses, but Pep is just as big a part of the problem. We are painfully ineffective, it’s tough to watch in honesty, yet it seems we change very little in our approach.

Nico O’Reilly on instead of Kova and I would have at least felt like we could hang in there with some presence in the middle of the park, but the momentum of the game shifted away from us on our own fucking subs. Last 10 minutes an embarrassment for a team chasing a game.
I thought this week would have seen us come out with a much better performance. Really looked average throughout.

I thought we were good first half and then got outplayed in the second half. Having no runners to the near post made us predictable in attack.

Hospital ball from Kovacic to Marmoush cost us the game. We still should have kept Hudson Odoi out though.

Phil Foden was the poorest player on the pitch.

I was only listening on TV but our fans were freer for half an hour and then seemed quiet for turret if the game. Not much to cheer in the second half admittedly.

It makes me feel sick and disrespectful to begin questioning Pep - I never thought I would but today was a chance to really make CL qualification solidly in our own hands. He has always complained about schedules and not being able to prepare the players - It gives me no pleasure to watch certain players just go through the motions and even the most positive of us cannot sugar coat how we played today. We were slow, had very few chances and have totally lost how to use one of the best centre forwards in world football. Erling looks fed up and I can understand why - watching Bernie run forward with the ball do a 180 and turn back then repeat that before eventually passing all the way back to a 20 year old defender to try and build up play must be frustrating. We have no plan B or C. Our wide players flatter to deceive not once did any of them put a decent cross in - It was easy for any team to defend - we have become boring and I can only assume that this is what the manager wants. We are risk adverse and players like Kovacic, Lewis, Foden and Bernie have all of a sudden become reluctant to be creative - safety possession first - 65% possession and not a whiff of a goal is very poor when you have the quality we have.

I hope I'm just pissed off after losing another game we should have won but an over reaction doesn't seem to apply at the moment.

Big positive is Kusanov who once again looked the best defender we have - a real talent and I just ignore how Ferdinand and McCoist think he's a lot to learn - them thinking that is a big compliment as they have zero idea about football these days.

Pep is done, his methods no longer work. The players have lost confidence. They don’t take risks because Pep won’t allow them to take risks. Pep has been a great manager and his loyalty to City has been immense, he could have gone to any club in the world and chose us. For that I will always be grateful. But. He looks like he needs a break. We need some fresh ideas.

Don’t be stupid, body language ffs! Haaland isn’t the problem, Bernardo, Foden, Savinho, Doku created absolutely nothing for him. I’ve noticed you repeat this opinion quite often.
He didn't help with his poor movement either

He couldn't. Coz that would have required him sprinting st break neck speed out wide. And would have been beaten by any average winger, who'd have simply used the defender's momentum against him.

Its advantage attacker when there is so much open space and you have time. Both of which Odoi had.

A defender's best decision is to slow the attack down and narrow the options. Thats generally the best decision. And Gvardiol followed the script correctly.
Gvardiol did nothing right for the goal, what game were you watching?

Yes, yes... Never Haaland's fault; it's player x,y, and z, etc. etc.

We started making wrong decisions a few seasons ago that would lead to our decline with some delay and then hit us at full blast this season.
I don't see this as a salvageable in terms of this team being the foundation for some sort of rebuild. Have no clue where it is leading us to, but I see nothing positive, a very rich Brighton with wrong players for the wrong manager, or other way round.

You say that the tricky run is over but of the teams that are left we have only managed to beat Leicester, Southampton, Wolves and Fulham

We’re flat track bullies. It’s as simple as that.

I cannot remember the last time we beat a top side either at home or away from home.

I cannot remember the last time we beat a side around us in the league away from home.

A poster mentioned before that Pep has more than enough credit in the bank to lead us into next season. I completely agree with that.

What I do think needs pointing out though is how poor he has been this year. The consensus has been to blame injuries, fatigue, the weather, grass length and Trumps election victory on our performances this season.

The reality is that we haven’t been good enough tactically. It’s passing for passings sake, no creativity, an inability to defend a long ball over the top and defensive mistakes.

The sequence of play for Forest’s winner has been going on for months. We’ve spent £170 million on players and still don’t look much better.

Get Nunes out of our side. O'Reilly left back, Gvardiol and Dias as centre backs and Khusanov at right back.

Get a central midfield player on the pitch who can attack and drive the game. Why isn't Grealish playing there? I'd bring Echeverri in. Foden and Bernardo seem like their heads are elsewhere at the moment.

Not taught us anything we didnt already know. Need a GK, RB, LB, AM, wingers that can score and a back up striker.

Bernardo, Gundogan, Stones, Grealish, Nunes, Ake, KDB, Mcatee, could easily go!! But KDB is our only creative player, dont think Foden is creative enough!!

It’s a big job for Viana, make no mistake!!
Agreed. A major clear out is needed. Will it happen? I doubt it. I don't think the club would allow that many established players to leave, irrespective of the fact that many of them are not producing the goods.

It's been coached out of Phil.

He should have engaged him earlier, and Dias should have backed him up leaving Khus one on one with Wood.
But with Nico on the pitch we wouldn't have been in that defensive state.
Don't think that would have worked. Hed have simply created more unnecessary space and disorganization.

Nott'm Forest 1-0 Man City

Manchester City

On race for Champions League qualification: "We have 10 games to qualify, we have to win games to qualify and we move on to the next one.
