And he’s gone down hill from being a decent shot stopper to a poor one. Same as lots of players have gone down hill this season and in past seasons.

It doesn’t denigrate the good they did us but it’s well past time he and we moved on.
Was never a decent shot stopper.

We can’t afford to carry him any longer

He was never that good at stopping shots, but this season he’s sunk to an all time low.

Unreal with his feet and gets the odd great assist, but as I said, we can’t afford to carry him any longer. Need a replacement in the summer.
All the players have sunk to an all time low. No need to single Eddie out.

Sums it up really.

the big lesson when a player asks to leave or seriously considering it just let them especially older ones who might not feel one more go in themselves at this high level. we go out of our way to convince Walker, Ederson to stay. but when its Palmer, Alvarez who would have big future at City we immediately ok to let them go for decent offers.

This isn't down to him wanting to leave. He had been performing consistently right up until Feyernoord game. Same with a couple of his team-mates this season. Besides that he asked for a transfer too late in the window for us to bring in an equally as good replacement.

The only game where i've walked away and said thank fuck we had him in goals was in Istanbul, I cant honestly think of another
Your point is valid if you are just assessing him on his traditional goalkeeping abilities.
But surely you realise he has been a key part of our recent incredible success for other attributes he brings to the table

I think the best assessment of goalkeeper is his traditional goalkeeping abilities.
Anything outside of that is a bonus.

Of course I recognise that and he has possibly been protected by a great defence, but he's shown on quite a few occasions that he lets in shots that most top class keepers keep out (and also makes great saves)

Why when that's not how we use our keeper? By that logic, centre backs should only be judged on their ability to head the ball and smash into somebody as traditional centre backs should.

You could make a compilation of goals conceded that most top goalkeepers save for literally any keeper on the planet. Alisson who many say is the best, has made significantly more errors leading to goals for Liverpool than Ederson has for us.

You may well be right and I have no data to prove otherwise but I think Allison is a far superior keeper.
I'm probably old style but I prefer the Courtois type who can dive and catch.
If Ederson wants to leave and if Pep still wants one of these sweeper keepers with top ball juggling skills, I just don't where he is going to get one.

I've been a big Ederson fan but he's getting worse each season. His his ball distribution and sweeper keeper attributes are excellent but he's an average shot stopper at best. I hope we're looking for his replacement before he takes the big Saudi money in the summer.
Supposedly we're looking to move both Ederson and Ortega in the summer.

Might be worth comparing the number of touches a goalkeeper makes with his hands vs with his feet.

We’re not in 1985 any more.
