Nottingham Forest (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Agreed We used to use David Silva on the corner of the box a lot to release the winger or full back to get to the bye line and cross for a tap in. KdB similar on the right. Teams wiser now plus less quality from City.
Yeah, think it’s now that we simply don’t have the 8’s to do it rather than teams being able to stop it. We seen how effective it could be against Ipswich in a game Kev was able to make runs. Obviously we all know the great man is shot to bits though

If you can’t win you don’t lose. The amount of these type of games we’ve lost this season is a joke.
It's this in a nutshell.

The substitutions killed us. We all knew what was coming when the changes were made, There was absolutely no need for us to go more attacking and all out to win the game.

I think we all would have been content with taking the 0-0 and move on and so would Nottingham Forest.

It’s an absolute car crash. A squad full of dads army , new players not sure what they should be doing and powder puff players not physical enough for the league. We are light years behind every other PL team in terms of athleticism and physicality and it shows every week - especially when subs are introduced.

We spent £200m in January and it’s made absolute zero improvement. £200m spent but still end up with Nunes playing full back is a joke.

15 defeats in 30 games is a disgrace but there are 10 better teams than us in the league so it’s probably about right.

A boardroom fixated on 115 took their eyes off the wheel. Pep staying out of pity cause he realised too late that the squad was fucked - especially when he had been told by ALL his trusted backroom staff that urgent refreshing was required last summer but ignored them all.

Absolute car crash and I hope the buck will stop with those responsible.

It’s happened for weeks. We use our subs to give the older players a runout - every other club is using subs for extra energy legs and power in the closing stages.

We can’t close games out for draws as this is most un-streetwise City team we’ve had for many years. We used to have 5 captains in the team - we now have none.

A team full of church mice bullied all over the pitch every week.

Yesterday is annoying in a sense that we were in control of the game without causing Forest too many problems, Forest never looked like scoring either other than the Ederson save.

He should have left it as it was or even just change Marmoush for Foden, Taking Gonzalez off was criminal, It was asking for trouble.

As you said we don't know how to close out games anymore especially when we are leading games, It used to be a case of making changes with players that are good in possession and we see out the game by keeping the ball, We aren't that team anymore, We give up possession so easily and we don't have the legs to win it back like we done before.

on the plus side it's only 71 quid for adults and 43 quid for kids to watch us against a decent opponent at the moment, the empty seats v Plymouth will only be the start if things don't improve.

These post match threads are getting as daft as the match threads

If we win Nico’s the new Rodri, Savinho & Doku are Robben & Ribery and we’re all set to dominate the world again with none or two signings in summer.

If we lose, all the usual halfwits have a field day and inform us helpfully that the world’s greatest ever manager needs to go long ball as he’s been found out and it’s an absolute disgrace that we’re 4 points off 3rd place and the club’s in freefall blah blah blah
Your a bit of a halfwit yourself posting comments like that which deflect reality. In sport your only as good as your last game. Currently our form has drifted company with anything approaching a satisfactory level. While some of the comments are OTT they are reflecting a growing anxiety regarding what is happening both on the pitch and behind the scenes. We all know and appreciate what Pep has done for the club but fears are growing that even he believes he has come to the end of the road.

What a great day.
Drank from 8 .30am.
Not the best performance, but have enjoyed a day with blues and forest fans.
Great to be a match goer.
Was a great day out.

Hopkinsons near the station a lovely place to chill out before the train and some decent boozers in walking distance, forest fans were no nobheads and had some good chats with them

Khusa was excellent. Nico was very good. Dias was ok. The rest were not good enough. Away end class as always. Home fans were quiet until the goal. Beer queue at half time was worse than the Etihad.

Which amazes me to the fact that however crap the rags are they usually fill the swamp.
Perhaps it’s because there are 659 million of the fcukers…

You can't be serious, every single team has had to deal with injuries, the team he put out should have beat Forest.

This is not a "bad season' it's a complete disaster we are not competing.

'Pep invents new ways of playing footy - it's what he does'

ok but we've been playing this inverted FB and high line nonsense since 22/23, it doesn't work anymore, teams know how to nullify it. So when is he going to 'Invent' something new???

'We do high risk football and this is what's made us the eye wateringly successful side that we are'.

we were only able to play high risk football because we had exceptional technical players, these types of players don't exist in the current market.
At this stage of the season, every side is exactly where they deserve to be - no ifs, no buts, no maybes, no cuddas, no shuddas, no false positions. Nothing has worked this season, but with us playing as poorly as we have we're above some of the teams (huge clubs with money to burn) that are regarded as having excellent seasons.

On the injury front, no side has been as hollowed out with injuries as us - long term injuries to the cornerstones of our side. But every side has some injuries although not to the same extent as us this season. True, some of the stand-ins and remaining elite players seem to have forgotten how to play a ten to fifteen yard pass.

Other elite sides have eventually gone over the edge and it's happening to us - albeit it's taken longer for us to have that experience.

Thankfully, Pep picks the side and decides the tactics - not nervous fans who want us to change to a more direct hard-running style because teams have done ok with that method this season.

Yesterday, the Forest goal was the equivalent (imagine it was us that scored) of passing the ball to Kev in yards of space with no opponent closing him down, who has all the time in the world to hit a diagonal to Phil standing on the touchline in twenty yards of space who has a free run on goal without being challenged. An easily preventable goal. CHO is a superb player - the last player in that Forest side you'd leave unmarked.

Forest deployed the low block well, but they would not expect to go the full length of the pitch completely unchallenged. To me, that's just poor play - not Pep's fault

We all know how pep likes to play.
Unfortunately the rest of Europe knows too..

"All of them" .
It's not effective anymore.
It's basically retro..
I think everyone knew how Pep's teams played after Barca and Munich. It was no secret. However the difference now is that our players aren't what they were. Far too many are sub par

He's admitted himself that he's not been good enough this season. Whether he has it in him to go again next season is the six million dollar question

Pep picked the starting eleven mate, Foden and Bernardo should not be starting on form, but he keeps persisting with them in the hope they can have one good game and that he will be proved right. O'reilly, Marmoush have to be given a run now and Bobb when he's ready. Some of those players are giving us fuck all on that pitch at present yet are still playing virtually every game
