Gareth Taylor sacked

Writing has been on the wall for a while - he took the team as far as he could & should have gone in the summer. Biggest thing for me is I can't think of one player who has improved under his coaching. We have a great squad and it has been tactical reasons why we have failed to kick on especially in the big games.

For me it is a good thing that they have made the call now - the short term availability of Cushing must be a factor. I wouldn't worry about how he does because it really is a bit of a free hit - Who knows if he will be around longer term. I think that Charlotte and Theresa will have a plan - from all accounts Theresa is well liked throughout the game and it wouldn't surprise me if she has someone from the continent in mind.

Finally for those thinking this is about Kelly - I don't believe it is - she will not be coming back whoever is in charge after this season. Despite some average games the stand outs recently have been Aoba and Mary (hope they can get her to extend) and with Lauren due back we are sorted in the wide attacking positions.

What makes you think it’ll be made permanent? Just a hunch? I think it’s time we go out and get a real statement manager like Chelsea did with Bompastor
It's a hunch based on the fact that we have a CFG 'identity' to maintain. It's a lot easier getting someone 'in house' to fall in line rather than appointing a world class/real statement manager and asking them to play a certain way.

There may of course be that statement manager out there who is available and already plays the way we want?

seems a bit harsh. I wonder if there’s another story lurking in there somewhere
Not harsh at all. Actually sacking this man was at least a year late. I would say renewing his contract during last season was very harsh to the players and many supporters. As I recall, prior to this job, he miserably failed with the U16 boys team, so they rewarded him by giving him the women’s team to coach! That was harsh. Excluding one FA Cup and one League Cup, he underachieved by all standards; considering the outstanding squad he had during his 5 years tenure. Please notice it was FIVE years not 2 or 3. In my opinion, waiting all these years, despite his glaring inefficiencies, to sack him just now is too lenient because of the several opportunities to win trophies that some quality players missed while playing for City.

Yeah I know CFG like the women to play a certain way. Maybe Therese and Charlotte can convince them to move away from that for the sake of success in the womens team.

Hopefully mate.

I only went to a handful of games pre 2020 when GT took over before getting a season ticket in 2022. Can anybody elaborate on how Nick Cushing sets his teams up to play and will he get the best out of our current squad between now and the end of the season?

@Mon Autre i know you like giving detailed replies… maybe you can help!

I like Cushing, and he did well in his first tenure despite that his squad was of a lesser quality than Gareth’s. He is a smarter coach and much better at players’ management, which is very important in any sport nowadays. But if Cushing yielded to the Club and played the Guardiola-way, which is clearly not suitable for this team, he will go through the same failure path of Taylor. The first step to success is that the Club should let Cushing, or any future coach, manage the team his/her way, not the Guardiola-way.
