I think it is about £100m for winning the CWC so not to be sniffed at. Being proper World Champions would also be a boost to our sponsorship revenues.

I'm a strong advocate for an entirely open competition from the very start so I'm not complaining but I can see a situation where this becomes boring very quickly. So that's only 2 out of 4 from the top 8 in the league phase through to the quarter final so far.

I did say the good teams don't necessarily have to take the league phase seriously, just prepare yourself for the knockouts. Don't sacrifice the Premier League for the 8 CL league phase games.

If we're back next year I'd rather we win the Premier League games either side of the CL games and do enough in the CL to go through, even if it means the playoffs again. We were unlucky to draw Real Madrid, just as Liverpool who won the league phase were unlucky to draw PSG.
 
I know Liverpool getting knocked out tonight is funny but city need champions league footy. Will England still get top 5?
Arsenal Villa all but through to the QF's
If the rags and spurs get knocked out on Thursday how does it work?
Chelsea should beat Copenhagen at home

Winning the Europa is their only way to qualify for the Champions League so they should be giving it 110%.

'On paper' there's only really Lazio and Roma/Bilbao stopping an all English final.

Although we played shit and didn’t deserve to get through, I thought as a top seed, we were shafted with PSG, Juve and Sporting away plus Inter at home.
Some of the lesser teams who got through have just ended up as Cannon fodder in the last 16.

Agree totally. All our away matches were tough. Celtic got drawn against Young Boys - we get Inter. PSG Juve.

I can remember another trophy that people laughed at and said they couldn’t be bothered with it so didn’t go.

It was called The European Cup.

I never quite understood the logic.

"I don't mind United winning the cup because it means they'll keep that useless manager who has just erm...won a trophy."

Blaming the format, which I don’t like, and the draw somehow lets us off.
If we’d beaten a very, very poor Sporting whilst ‘hanging on’ at 3-0 against Feyenoord, we’d have finished 8th and would have be playing Bruges this week.
The way we’ve played this season, I’m far from convinced we’d have got out of a group of four!

Anyway, onwards and upwards and I think we will put up a much better showing next season (or maybe the season after)..

The Full Members Cup was a joke at the time. Lots of people went for the day out though
