All things AI.

New Chinese LLM out, apparently takes a fraction of the power to run so reduces the need for the fast Nvidia GPU's and was released as open source. a few big American companies have taken a stock hit over it.

Its currently quite cencored if you ask anything potentially negative about China. but being opensource that wont last long.

Caused a massive stir. Interesting if it really means that more can be done with less infrastructure/power.

Might have moved us ahead a year or 2.

It actually uses older Nvidia GPUs, but appears to be able to use them efficiently enough to not need the latest, fastest and most expensive chips.

The thought is this could massively reduce Nvidia high end purchases in the near future, and the semi-conductor companies all got schwacked. Google was hurt, too, but I used it as an opportunity to buy more today!

Ironically, some energy companies also took a haircut, as the DeepSeek chips use less energy, too.

From my perspective as a creative, I don’t like it, I don’t like how the some Co.s are embracing it, & getting rid of designers, It looks for the most part crap.
I’m having to edit others AI files & they’re a nightmare.
The results are too unpredictable, & I’ve spent 4 hours working on one design, it’s like polishing a turd.

Yeah same here as a Dev. There are lots of risks that businesses start to think they can just replace dev's. AI should be thought of as a tool to automate the mundane and boring tasks, not a replacement of Dev's/Creatives. while that might in the long run result in some losses of jobs its a far better way to try to get businesses to think of it.

From a creative's point one prime example was a game I know some people worked on about 20 years ago. a car had driven around cities of the world filming and mapping tracks for the game, the film was used as textures for the game. but needed a ton of work to tidy up, remove people, remove overhead tram wires etc etc. it was a massive mind numbingly boring task, they were hiring every art outsourcing company they could find to help out. that with modern tooling and AI could be done a lot easier and faster.

for me as a Dev im using AI to automate things like unit tests and treating LLM's as an advanced search engine mostly.

Yes I'm an motion designer and the stuff made with AI that's come my way is a mess to work with.

they had stock of those GPUS and are using those aren't they?

they used older GPU's yep. but there is a lot more to it by the look of it. using less precise prediction allowed for less VRAM to be used making it more manageable on lower end GPU's. also instead of making 1 very large LLM model that "knows everything" they made many smaller LLM's with specialities which were quicker to train.

plus a bunch of other changes.. this seemed to be a decent video on it.

I thought I'd share a bunch of vids on this (I posted about 'Deepseek' on the other AI thread some days back) and get the opinion from the devs and designers on here.

Just remember, this hasn't really started running, it's in its walking phase.

We're currently fixing an issue with the forum and a large part of it was caused by Claude's bot ignoring our robots file and scraping the hell out of the forum with tons of requests. All these LLMs are trained on places like Bluemoon. There's a scary fucking thought.

Looks like Claude bots really do like to ignore the robot.txt files. to the point someone has made a maleware for his site that traps them in an invinite maze

The absolute irony.

OpenAI says Chinese rivals using its work for their AI apps

The maker of ChatGPT, OpenAI, has complained that rivals, including those in China, are using its work to make rapid advances in developing their own artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

Story

Imagine that. Someone using other people's work without asking in order to improve their AI tools. What an outrage (when they do it).

This was pretty funny.

The results are funny, but it's genuinely hilarious they have the audacity to charge for something this bad, or that anyone would pay for it.

Been using Grok last month after not even knowing really how good it is!

If can plan you a diet plan for your body if you ask it the right info!

Ask it for a recipe for anything and add how many calories per portion does it!

Ask it anything medical

Ask it anything it answers it fantastically!

It's going to change the world
